I was thinking the same thing.... Guy A will have a ski for sale and say its the best thing since sliced bread, but then Guy B puts his for sale and guy A says that boat is the best..... Hard to get true answers on AM hulls

Simple, if you are doing the build. Most likely it is not costing you as much to build vs your selling price. Simple Business.

Yup.
"If you add up retail on all these parts..." only applies to people who can't get product at dealer cost.

I feel there are, however, certain big dollar ski's that truly have more invested than the listed price. These are the skis that have been ridden more than 1/2 tank of fuel, had money spent developing the correct setup. etc.

I don't get it either. I love my Matrix but then again, I built exactly what I wanted right from the get go.

People have always bought, built and sold toys though, it has just always been cars, bikes, boats etc. The aftermarket jetski market has boomed in the last few years opening up all kinds of new and interesting options.

If you don't believe me, look closer at the pics of all the skis for sale. The backgounds are full of some really interesting projects that are much more expensive than $20 grand.

I know some of the builds for sale are high end am hulls. If the rider is given a am hull from the builder for a very fair/cost/ sponcership and he uses it for the world finals he then puts it up for sale and passes on some of the cash back to the builder because he says he has a new updated am hull that will be bigger and better and the rider now gets that hull and starts over again. Some people were saying around the time of the finals why has that team not been riding that ski all season.. same example if the team builds something for the world finals 10 months in advanced and practices on it all year it is outdated at the finals.. Most times this works as we saw this year with a large team it failed.

Simple. Because they can.

many reasons: Spent too much money and need to get out from under it. Didn't like it. Wants something different, better, newer, etc. Likes to build new every winter. Devil made them do it. Wife said it has to go. Found a good deal on something else. Likes to horse trade. Getting into something else.

The obvious answer is some people have more money (or credit) than sense. You can't tell me that the ones selling very soon after building (that aren't sponsored or dealers) are building a ski without the intention of riding and keeping it.

I'm one of those guys that likes to build a new ski every year... To me its just as much fun to build and tweak a ski to the extreme as it is to ride... I let the national tour winner ride my freak this week, he was so impressed about just how big you can go.. His coment was I have time to think before I land, lol... So to me I have pushed that Hull/Motor package to 99% time to build another ski so it makes sense to sell my freak... If it sells thats great, if not I'll keep riding it & build my new surf hull.. But my wife wont be very happy, she lets me do what I want but gotta sell one to build another..

I change hobbies like every two years. The only thing that has stuck with me my whole life was dirt bikes. If i sell me superfreak it'll be because tem is making a better one or something :) i'm also a guy who enjoys building things. my last road race car got over 35mpg and ran in the 10's. it's fun building and trying different things.

I like riding far more than building. Building is just in the way of riding.
But there are plenty of folks who enjoy building nice boats. Josh is the perfect example.

I think it is great that some peeps or the big boys in the industry want to keep things moving. I think it helps us all get better and have the chance to own top notch boats built by the best guys in the biz.

some see as a waste of money, some see as a form of entertainment.....

also most of the guys building the nicest most expensive skis are not paying retail for all the parts.....hell, if you shop around..buy when there's deals or used many times you can build a ski for MUCH less than what you might think

There are also lots of folks out there that could probably afford much nicer stuff......IF they knew how to budget and handle $$$

How many people do you know that go to a convenience store on a DAILY basis for a red bull, a gatorade, a lotto ticket, starbucks etc etc etc...sometimes once, twice or THREE times a day!! You can easily blow 10-25 bucks a day on nonsense and have zero to show for it.....

Pfffft. You got a red bull, a gatorade, a lotto ticket, and a mocha grande to show for it!
Don't tell me that's nothing.
