I'm building a 05 sxr for the stock class this year just wondering if any has any tips as far as mods you can do legaly wanting to hit a couple rounds of the national tour this year .Ive not raced since 99 so I'm out of the loop as far as what to to for the 800.

I've actually been out of the racing loop since I sold my 04 SXR a couple of years ago as well.
It really depends how much you want to spend. Send the prop out to impros to get repitched. It is just a tick tall. I don't think boring nozzles is legal in stock class yet. Boring it to 80mm would achieve about the same thing.
Re-jet carbs....I can't remember exactly what I was running. I think I used stock low's, 140 mains and bumped pop off up a tick.
Advance timing.

I liked the Worx grate and ride plate as well as anything.

These are a few basics to start out. The fast boats out there have a ton of crazy stuff done.

Yes you can run an ignition. footholds are not legal. You will have to make some type of "plugs" to fill them in while racing.

You can have two sponsons also. And if you have a superjet you can use hull extensions... Is that to level out the field because the sxr handles so much better?

I'm building my superjet just for backup the sxr is my buddies I'm building it were both going to race it this year .But when you say can have ignition does that mean just timing advance or complete aftermarket ignition Ive seen were people are running advent ignition I didn't think that was legal for a stock boat.also are the rules the same pro-am stock and amatuer stock well be running same ski both classes

you can big bore it
and you can run an aftermarket ignition as long as it plugs into the orginal loom
I wouldnt think you would get 53 out of one with just a rejet and an ignition

dont waste your money on an aftermarket ignition. Just stick with the basics, ride plate, grate, bars, prop, stinger, and a timing advance plate if you even want to do that

I agree. I ran an advent. I pulled it out and just ran timing advance and couldn't tell the difference.......seat of the pants or on a radar gun.

if it is an 03 then you would benefit from the Ignition, but from 04-08, not that much gain for the cost, you can over come that by riding smoother

TBM Plate and Grate
Stinger Mod
Flame Arrestors and choke removed.
Rejet the carbs
UMI Bars and spring tensioner
Repitch prop or go with a prop tuned by IMPROS

Ride as much as you can, put out some bouys..........

yes but you can only run one set, as in just front sponsons or just back sponsons........
I dont know about sj sponsons but tubbie III's would be the ones to have if your thinking about running sponsons, there were a few racers at naty's and worlds in stock/lites class running these

i dont know if anybody has mentioned it but you can also run split cooling, there is a couple different ways of doing this along with different ways of legally drying out the pipe at a certain point in the power band....

Honestly, for stock class, nothing is more important than turning as much laps as possible in race like conditions

beyond practice, dont try to make your boat any faster than 50-51-ish mph, focus more on your 0-50 mph time, 0-60ft time, hookup, and timing the band or practicing starts with a partner
everyone hears about these stock boats doing 54 or 55 mph but you will never see those numbers on a race course, at naty's in the first qualifying heat i lined up next to a boat that was "supposedly" doing 53 and getting there in a hurry and holeshotted the living hell out of it (in my split anyways..lol) and my stocker only did 47.9, i just had a good jump and had finally got my boat accelerating like i wanted it to
I battled with my stock class ski for 2 years and did not get it finally figured out till naty's last year so if you need any more help outside of this thread shoot me a pm!

Good luck!

Im really suprised you guys cant feel the difference in an inition on an sxr
Please show me what curve you are running as i think that maybe you are not using an aggressive enough curve

For stock class, you can now bore your nozzle now, and you can also add ballast.

But I wouldn't go nuts with your boat because word on the street was that they are going to be reeling in stock class over the next year. They created amateur "box-stock" class and I thought I heard they were planning on applying the same rules to novice stock next year. Pro-Am would remain a spec class, but thats it. I say keep in bone stock and go race the "box-stock" class.

or....

go with the timing advance, macc exhaust reducer, scoop grate (tbm?), ride plate (macc?), rejet your carbs, repitch your prop, so with the thinner base gasket to get the comp up, add the pump shoe seal kit, bore the reduction nozzle out (or just get a 750sx reduction nozzle), add the front sponsons, play with adding some weight, spend $4000....

or... just keep it stock and learn to ride it better than everyone else. lol
