broken stator wires

Alright....so, went out last weekend..ripped for about an hour in some sweet shore pound locally.....boat ran great, didnt miss a beat.

took it home, flushed...hit the throttle to blow the water out and she dies....

no sparky.

Well, pull the front cover off and appears that the brown wire on the stator is completely severed, the red/white is nicked, and one of the greens is nicked as well......:banghead:

looks as if one of the teeth on the flywheel caught and ripped them up....

Now, the break is about 1" statorside of the grommet.........Anyone ever have any luck soldering a break here? Or is it JSS bound and not worth the effort..

Before the wire got cut the boat ran PERFECT....and I want to ride this weekend.

Ill get a pic up in the AM, left cam at work....

Eh....solder it (do a NICE job!!!) and seal it up with silicone/5200 or something. That will get you through the weekend. You should have it rebuilt, though.

thats what i was thinking. felt dumb saying it tho. :dunno:

do u have a spare setup scott? i have complete spare 61x electrics.. dont know what ur running..

i have a spare, that needs the wires soldered

the spare though will be easy.......the wires need work in the MIDDLE.......I can probably fix this with some time, it just sucks to have a stator rebuilt that just needs wiring....

Dude, just un solder at p/u and coils and cut wires back past breaks and re-solder them to the coils and p/u's. This is what JSS will do with new wires anyway. You dont even have to take e-box apart.

so, when a stator is said to be "rewound" thats only talkiung about those 5 wires that come off it?

i always though they rewound the copper wired pickup or something......

Well....they strip the three coils and then use new wire to "redo" those coils.
If I remember correctly, Green&Green are really one wire that goes on one coil. Then there's red/white that winds another, and the other wire (color?) goes on the third coil. Those last two coils just get terminated at GND (stator plate). That's what the black wire connects to.
