This happend on a freshwater lake, pretty big waves, dont even know when it actually happend. Noticed the ski was bilging alot more than it normally does so I checked it out. It is broken like this on both sides....

I can see daylight from the inside out from the big crack.
It happend on a pretty much stock roundnose Superjet. impeller and steering, intake grate.

--Is this fixable with some resin, hardener and cloth?

--any help is appreciated.

The motor is already out. Just waiting on what to do next. any info would be great. heres a few pics.

My suggestion would be this:

1. Grind out crack with Dremel or similar until all of crack is gone

2. Fill in grind with Bondo Glass and sand smooth

3. Lay small strip of 1708 over area

4. Lay large sheet of 1708 over existing strip, let cure, and get to riding - screw cosmetics

grind out the crack. open up the crack at a 45 degree angle on the inside of the hull. lay some glass and and resin up in 3 layers from small to large. while your in there you should reinforce the whole sides. if you reinforce the whole thing you will need to use epoxy resin. If you only do the crack or just the top half you can use polyester resin (cheaper).

once it is reinforced you can use thikened resin or marine bondo to fill in the crack from the outside.

another option to smooth out the crack is before you reinforce by putting packing tape on the outside and fill in from the inside with your thickened resin before you start laying up the glass. make sure you layup the glass before the resin hardens if you do it this way.

then put a sticker on... or not, I wouldn"t.

Ok, Ive got some epoxy resin and hardener as well as some 404 filler from west systems as well as come cloth.

I am unsure about what you are meaning about the 45 degree crack? Some of the crack is opened up far enough I could see through the hull. Some of the crack isn't of course.

I planned on just reinforcing the whole thing while I was in there...Im pretty sure I have enough stuff left.

So I should epoxy resin/glass the whole inside of the crack. And then just use resin and no glass for the outside?

thanks for all the help guys...and for the record, this happend at the Ozark Invasion at Lake of the Ozarks...i guess I came down wrong on one of the cruiser wakes....

Grind out the entire crack, plus some so you know you got all of the bad material, and bevel it at a 45 degree angle from the inside. That gives more surface contact area.

I would actually bevel it from both inside and out, and lay at least one layer of glass on the outside so it's sandwiched.

if you can see all the way through grind all the way through in that spot. I would use and air cutter or grinder any disk type tool the get a good taper. I would lay glass on both sides and then sand it smooth but you will probably be fine if you glass the inside and use the 404 on the outside. at least its on the bottom and you can just rattle can it white and you wont be able to tell.

OH and if any one wants to find big waves in MO come to the Ozarks Jetski Invasion next year and we will show you.
