I did a search for breaking in a new motor mostly found arguments on what oil to run and what mix ratio, So how does this sound

Pre-Note:
*DO NOT use a synthetic blend oil for break in!
-------------------------------------------------

*1st:Hook your ski up to the hose get it running for about 3 min just enough to warm up, Wait until it's cool

*2nd: Ride the ski. Go NO MORE than 1/2 throttle, with NO hard acceleration. Ride the ski until it is to operating temperature like normal,5-10 min,Beach it, Wait until it's cool to the touch

*3rd: Take the ski out again, this time go NO MORE than 3/4 throttle. Stay away from hard acceleration. Get it to running temp, and beach it again. Wait for it to cool down again.

*4th: Take the ski out, You can go as hard as you want, but don't hit the rev limiter. Get to operating temp, and park it. Let it cool down one last time.

Some will agree with that and some will say ride like you stole it from the get go. Lots of threads like this and they are full of the two groups argueing like the old "tastes great/less filling" beer commercials.

It just takes a few minutes as long as there is plenty of piston clearance. If the builder used minimum clearance then you need to make sure to tune rich and give it a couple of tanks before leaning it in and going WFO.

My builder said warm it up and have fun.... XS1000/10 mil
Pulled my motor apart end of last year for the normal crank overhaul, pistons and crank looked new. Crankworks asked me why I sent the crank in... Lol

IMO break it in like your going to ride it... No water hose test

I thought xmetal breaks the motor in for you and thats why they charge $1000 for assembly?

skip the hose, take it to the lake
warm it up slow on the trailer
take it easy first 10 gallons
run extra oil (32:1) and fatten up the carb screws a little to prevent lean

I talked to x-metal today they said for freestyle you really dont need to worry to much because we are always on and off the throttle, but run 2 tanks before you go WOT
they also said run 32:1 mixture

hey josh do you guys break in airplane motors the same way

With airplane engines we ground run just to check for leaks, cowl it up & go flying. For the first 5 hrs we leave it rich... Also vary RPM normally 2300-2500 for a normal piston powered aircraft. We also run mineral oil for the first 20 hrs

I'm installing new IO 550's on my Baron now, first flight will be full power take off & climb for 3-5 min.... Seen guys baby engines, which is great for me because I get more work....
