I was pulling the engine from my wifes ski last night and found the rubber on both rear engine mounts seperated from the lower mount. When mounts go bad do they normally just release like that or do the tear the rubber? Luckily she doesn't ride agressive enough to have done any damage but it explains why her ski kept shutting down on her the last ride of Daytona.
I assumed her idle was too low on her new carbs once the ski warmed up so I didn't dig into it too much, I'm glad I didn't jump on her ski and put it through the paces or I may have caused a ton of damage.
Since I'm tearing everything down from her ski for my new build with the SS846 I'm thinking of using a set of GP800 engine mounts I have on the shelf. They are beefier but with similar overall dimensions. I already have Carter Keepers so clearance shouldn't be an issue.
Anybody have any more experience with this? Jetmaniac has a post that says they are 1/4 taller but when I held them close they appear to be the same height. I'll unbolt one tonight and get a side by side comparison. Seesm like a very simple upgrade/solution to me.
