Boring the Stock SJ Nozzle

What diameter are most of you running? I want as much low end as I can get. I enjoy the occasional WOT run, but I don't really care if I kill off a few mph. The ski has a Solas Concord 13/16 cutback by Impros, if that matters. I am not sure what effect that impeller has on pump dynamics and internal pressure.

Thanks for any help.

My stock nozzle measures exactly 82mm with 4 mm wall thickness.

does it harm the stock siphon fitting?
Boring it out will cut off the stock siphon boss. I will replace it with a small copper tube that I will press/epoxy in the hole.

Another question I have, are there suppose to shims under the bolts that hold the pump to the ski? I was thinking maybe these shims were added to put the nozzle slightly downward. This ski was raced in region 6 and at the world finals before I got it. I am trying to make it into more of a freeride/freestyle ski.

is it necessary to fix up the stock syphon or will it work after boring that big chunk off the inside?
It won't work as well or at all without putting another piece on it. The siphon works by having water flow over it and creating a vacuum. With the boss removed the hole is at 90* to the stream flow instead of pointing in the direction of the flow.

I am not so sure anymore, the stock SXR nozzle is mostly flat right there and has no real raised portion.

Anyone know anything about these shims?

As it turns out you don't need to cut off the siphon boss. The nozzle tapers out to 87mm before you get there. No need to mess with the copper tubing.

Here is what mine looks like now.

I have a spare nozzle from a Raider that I wanted to try this on.

I guess it's time to smile at someone with a big drill bit.
