so i had my superjet out and had a crappy day....... it is a 2001. was out riding this weekend and got to the beach no problems a good 10 minutes of riding, and running great... after putzing around a bit i felt like when i was trying to goose the throttle , it would misfire and bog........ i would do ok at idle and a bit past it..... it kept happening and eventually died out.... then would not start. got to the beach, let her sit and would not start. eventually with some time and priming. she started up fine. but still with anything 1/2 throttle or more, ran like crap and eventually died.. eventually after a few episodes of this, the battery died and was towed back. felt like water in my gas. in fact i was certain that was the issue. drained the gas today. tested to see if there was any gas/ water separation and none.. so now i am stuck? Any ideas where to look next? stock air intake, i think the electrical is good, new wires, new stator ( well jet maniac certified) new start stop. she ran great till this. I will say just before this my primer was siezed.... took it apart and cleaned her out. seemed to work just fine but when i pumped it gas would come out into the tray a little. can't see how this could have any impact , but the only issue i can suspect.

Is your primer feed line in your return or fuel in line? If it tees into your fuel in, you could be pulling air. Primer always goes in the return line.

Other than that, I'd say it sounds like you just sucked up some crap into your carbs. Have you ever had them apart to clean / inspect?

Yep, primer in the supply side means your top end is now toast. I can't believe how many people get this wrong. I stay away from primers all together. Even a fairly modded machine will start easily with a stock choke setup. IF NOT, then I'd suspect the cdi crapped.

Last year I bought a certified stator, looked great and it never worked right, after a year of crap riding I sent the stator to JSS and they hooked it up, runs like a champ. I'll never buy a used stator again, send it to Jetski Solutions. My symptoms were the same, ride for 20 minutes, after heating up and jumping it would really run bad. Now my CDI just went bad on my other SJ and it was the typical "Cranks and when you let off the start button I would fire once", note that it is a MSD Enhancer.

I will agree the symptoms do sound like a bad stator but hey check it for yourself , this thread pretty much explains each check. I moved the thread here so I wouldn't have to keep sending links to the other site .

that is a good question. the primer has been on there in one form or another for 10 years at least. Of the top of my head i can not recall how i installed it. but i have never had one " seize" up and have to pull it apart. makes sense though. I will check tomorrow i have a new one coming from blowsion i will need to install. perfect time to check and see. thanks for the idea ( and timing is perfect for this new problem to coincide with me taking it apart)

didn't feel like a cdi. I have been through 3 or 4 of them in the last 10-15 years really felt more like a fuel issue. but not as persistent as a carb being out of tune. but since i pulled apart the primer to unstick it, perhaps some air getting in from the scoring in the chamber of that?

oh those msd enhancers LOL. i have three dead ones in my garage. I know that failure well. I know jet maniac tests these all before they go out. it very well could be it ( i hope not, it has like 4 rides on it since i got it ) could be a stator i fear also, John is a magician with them. when i was a sxi riders forever ago he did one for me. that is what i will do if this is not fuel related.....

i hope you are wrong LOL. I hate buying things that don't last. but i fear it is also.... that being said. 4 rides on this jet maniac stator that would be crap luck for me.

Regretably electrical components are like light bulbs you never know when they will go out .
true story. been through that a time to many. seems like it may have been the prime line. it was indeed in the intake side. strange it has been there since the early 2000's with never a problem . but maybe once my primer seized and i tried to fix it , more air than ever got in??? will replumb it and hope for the best!! if not good , back to that damn stator again. or pull the carbs and look for schmooo

well the primer was not the issue. time to dig deeper. took off the air box and the carbs and screens covered in oil and gas, oil and gas all over the intake area actually. not seen a mess like this ever on my ski. not sure where the leak is, but i guess time for a rebuild to start with. it almost looks as if it is spitting out around the pump area? bad gasket maybe? or more so, i am thinking the reeds may be not sealing..... they feel intact but they are at least 15 years old. shooooot
