FX-1 Blowsion pump install + XR tech 144 pump shoe

has anyone installed one of these pumps using an aftermarket pump shoe?

I have an XR tech aluminum shoe...and just picked up the blowsion pump from seatsR4toilets...

also, not sure if I have an fx intermediate shaft lying around anymore.....any reason why a roundie shaft couldnt be cut down by 1/2--3/4" to make it work??

where ya at mafia? :1zhelp:

is this going into a FX-1? (as opposed to your WDK ski)

there was a discussion about the SJ pump shoe over at pwct. Basically the SJ shoe does not have the correct angle for the pump to seal up correctly. Some people have the shoe "decked" at an angle while I believe others mount the whole shoe at a slight angle

RN midshaft is longer

couldnt it be cut down?? its only what, 1" longer....????

yep..into a 95 Fx

I dont have the pump in my hands yet........but I do have the shoe

way I see it is its just like a 650 pump swap...

grind down the pump shoe some.....

grind away the hull the same way you would for a 650 pump install...

epoxy up the thin areas and 5200 the shoe...

not gonig to mess with the intake cavity...or as little as possible

looks like you used the stock fx pump shoe, bored it out as much as possible then the pump conversion will bolt right up??

my hull has no pump shoe right now....is a new fx shoe ground way out the easiest way??

im not dead set on the xrtech shoe for this job...I just already had it here..

Idok that Blowsion FX1 pump was in that ski I got from Ken. Had a FX1 pump shoe just bored out some.

Thats what I would do, keep it simple & get it together. No grinding, etc.

Nice pump!!!

That's what I did. If you do this, run a small bead of silicone on the back side of the shoe. You can't (easily) open the shoe all the way up to 144 so you will want to ramp the backside of it rather than leaving a ledge. Maybe MNTurbo has made some progress on opening up the shoe further?

Interesting thread...lesson here is MOD THE HULL TO FIT THE PUMP.

i am installing one right now. i think it's the r&d which is about the same. i am having issues sealing it up. i think what i am going to do is bolt up my pump, then shim the shoe out on the bottom (this is where i'm having issues with it sealing) so that it seals up right. i also plan on running the silicone. i did the "cut and paste" method and installed both the pump shoe and pump intake from a square into mine. getting the pump shoe into exactly the right place has been a bit of a p.i.t.a But when I'm done I can run any pump or intake.

if you figure out away to run a SJ mid shaft that would be awesome. i am afraid of stripping mine and being left w/ out a replacement.

this is a bit out there, but could you cut down a superjet drive shaft, thread it, use a kawi 650 housing , and kawi style coupler? you would have to take the coupler off w/ a pipe wrench to pull the pump, but the thought of not having splines to strip would make me much less worried..

i was thinking this would give the best of both worlds... available SJ shafts, very available bearing housings, and cheap couplers..

Amen!

I havn't gotten far on my pump shoe project. For anyone that is interested, here is what I have been running for the past season. Yamanube did the work. It is just the stock shoe with a little bit of grinding, and silicon is used to make the transition from ~125mm to the 144mm pump

it works great as is. No hookup problems to speak of, great top and and low end too. Since the current setup works so well, I'm not going to bother myself with installing a 144mm pump shoe. Instead I decided to epoxy a stock shoe and grind it out as much as possible. from the looks of it, the most I will be able to grind it will be ~140mm...otherwise it will be more JB weld than aluminum. I havn't gotten anywhere with the grinding though, because my Dremel grinding bit clogged up with aluminum instantly (any tips?!)

Thats damn good idea!

Do you remember the QJS 144mm pump mod? He used a plate of aluminum instead of messing with the stock FX pump shoe. At least you don't have to worry about the front mounting tabs (cut them off the liner). The mounting tabs are still in the pictures but, are they really necessary if the plate is bonded to the hull? Use some metric threaded rod to sandwich it all together.

Just throwin a wrench in some gears for ya...

i like it. i came across my mind to tap my r& d pump shoe to sandwhich it.. maybe I will try this method, then grind on my hull some more to line it all up...

thanks for the pics flash

There are a few pics of it in my build thread in this section. I will snap some more this weekend and post them up.
