hosing down the ski yesterday i realised my rule 500gph bilge pump sucks ass!
if the pump is on and running dry it will not pick up water. if i turn it on when underwater it pumps with almost the same pressure/gpm as the hose. wtf!?
i tryed rerouting the pump line, i even shortened it a foot. nada.

try using smooth bore hose for your bilge pump exit hose. Seems to help eliminate some of the air bubbles. And... buy some attwoods.

Twin rule 500s here, no problems with priming.

Does anyone know if the attwoods have the same bases as rules?

I had the same problem with that expensive fancy 'waterproof' switch.

bilge ran for a month with the switch off, ski was under cover duringwinter, didnt hear it.

cost me a battery.

probably should unhook the batt and put it on a tender if you store it that long anyway... that's kinda borderline, I guess

yes the attwoods are much better i think....i also have the atwood 500 and have had no problems. i use a water proof switch from tractor supply that cost me 10 bucks...going on second year of usage. my friend has a rule 500 automatic and it sucks too.

If it does not pick up at first, just cut it off then right back on...........

Not that big of a deal.......... I have gotten 5 years out of pumps before...... cannot say the same about any of the other brands.

I've had many 500 GHP Rules - never had one last longer than 6 x months in a ski... apparently they last years in boats just don't seem great in ski's for some reason. Maybe its a harsher place to be?

The 500 SUCKS IMO get the 360 it fits in same bracket and works 100% better. I run 2 360's and tried the 500's only to immediateley return to the 360.
