Hello,

What is necessary is going to depend on your riding type and preferences.

The bilge is not required if you are just going to cruise around the lake. The stock siphon bilge and a good hood seal is sufficient for casual riding. I don't run my bilge while racing because the siphon gets the job and I don't fall much. However, if you are going to ride surf at all, be doing fountains/subs, riding aggressively or falling a lot, then a bilge is a must.

The bilge is a mostly simple job. You can just glue it down, but the brackets are inexpensive, so I am going to suggest a bracket. A few dollars saved gluing it down will make it more of a hassle down the road.

You need...
- Bracket
- Bilge (rule 500)
- 3/4" hose
- pipe clamps
- Switch (and bracket if you get that kind of switch)
- Fuse (optional but strongly recommended)
- ring connectors marine heat shrink type
- line connectors (depending on the type of switch you buy)

The bilge bracket for the SJ and the rule 500 is like this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-701-..._Watercraft_Parts&hash=item23279437f9&vxp=mtr
Just bolt it onto the through hull pump housing. It keeps the stock siphon bilge. It's what I have, it works well.

I'm not going to detail every step that you need to do to install the bilge. That has been explained here many times.

------------

As far as what other parts are necessary, it depends on your riding style. If you ride surf, a scoop intake will help keep your pump from cavitating. If you race, a ride plate and sponsons will help a lot. If you want more power, you should buy a pipe and a head. Everyone is different. Most people buy a pipe first. I myself bought 0* bars and a bilge 1st. Then a throttle/cable (because I broke the stocker so I got stronger parts), then a ride plate (stock for surf and a new one to race with), made rear sponsons, high compression head, front sponsons, lifter wedges (quicker than footholds). Most people would think I'm crazy for not buying a pipe, but this works for me. (Note I went down the handling route instead of the power route. The only power mod I have is the head, and I bought it used, so it was 1/3 the price of the pipe, and it doesn't change my power curve, those reasons are why I got it over a pipe).

There is a thread in this section called "1st mods for your new superjet". It has lots of advice. Finding answers to the questions you seek are very common and easy to find but you need to look for them a little. Use the search feature.

Anyway, the bilge is a good place to start.

WORX Yamaha WR228 SuperJet '08 Intake Grate

http://impros.com/store/index.php/p...rx-yamaha-wr228-superjet-08-intake-grate.html

Iv heard nothing but good reviews about the WR201 but i think yamaha changed there hull design and the only intake grate from WORX that will work for me is the WR228

Steering cable is a must on the newer superjets. Get a 96-07 cable and handle pole or an aftermarket cable setup to fit your stock pole. Shmity1 here on the forums can help you out there.

This should be the absolute first thing to be fixed on 08+ superjets IMO.

i cant seem to find a way to get in touch with Shmity1 does he have a website or email i could contact him through ? i cant send him a private message for some reason it might be because im a new member.

You need post at least 5 times and wait until approved before you will be able to send/receive PMs here.

I think the single bilge pump is plenty and I would leave stock siphon bilge in place. We have the intake grate and bilge pump parts in stock along with any other parts you might need.

Cant go wrong with Jetmaniac or OCD solutions for bigle kits. OCD's is who i went with on my 2012, got dual bilges just b/c. Also bought the schmity steering cable. Got the rest of my steering setup from jetmaniac: cold fusion plate/rrp riser bars/throttle. Haven't got to experience the difference yet as i've done all this during the off season but the steering from the factory is awful. Plenty of threads related to all this.

Hey JetManiac do you have a Dual Bilge Pump Kit or just the Single bilge, could you hook me with the schmity cable as well , i would like to order all the necessary or what some of you call the stage 1 parts.

Bilge Pump (Dual Since im sure il be falling off the SJ Alot)
WORX WR228 Intake Grate
Blowsion Billet Hood Latch ( If I use this Will i need to use the Hood Strap?)
Shmity or Blowsion HD Steering Cable (If i use any of them does it mean i could use pre 2008 quick steer plates?)
Blowsion Pole Limiting Rope
Cold Fusion RISER BAR QUICK STEER PLATE AND CLAMP
as for the Phat bar i see most of the the people guys that run the Cold Fusion use Riser Bars instead of 0 Deg Bars Why is that im not familiar with stand up skis but are there any bars with cross pads?
and im guessing since il be using a thicker pad i need to change the throttle as well what throttle levers do you have in stock JetManiac

Im Sorry for asking and i did alot of googling and researching but 80% if info was on pre 2008 SJ

Thanks,

You say you're not that familiar with stand ups yet? Are you just learning to ride? If so, I'd honestly suggest just the steering upgrades and bilge pump for now. As you progress, you will have a much better understanding of the modifications that will benefit YOU instead of just throwing a bunch of parts at the ski all at once.

Think of stand ups as a tailored suit. Should be modified to fit you and your style. One person's perfect setup could be completely opposite than someone elses.

I'm glad I didn't just throw parts at my ski when I first started out. It was a big enough change going from a 650 square nose Super Jet to the 701 round nose. I couldn't imagine the difficulty I would have had if I brought the ski up to 90 or so HP when I was learning. Get a season under your belt and work on fundamentals before spending all that money. Getting the basics down will help you out more than parts.

Great advice right there.

Thanks for the advice guys the reason im ordering all of these parts right now is to save on shipping shipping costs as much the parts themselves if not more, i guess il keep the quick steer, bar and intake grate for later. and i hope after this post i could use the pm to order my parts.

as for the Blowsion Billet Hood latch ,if i used it will i need the hood strap as well or would the Billet hood latch be enough, most of the parts i have on my list to improve the SJ its just to keep it more more reliable.

Thanks,

Hello guys, I'm kinda in the same situation as well except my ski is 2011 and I already have two years of riding experience, plus I had a blidge pump installed after break-in (500, glued).
I want to get a couple of things and want them all once if possible, shipping to another country. :)
I didn't know about the 5 post rule or else I would've spammed this forum. :p
Anyway, I'm thinking of the shmitty cable but I also want a good turn plate with that and I dont want to change the handle bars unless I have to (so something for a short fat guy). :p
Intake I'm thinking Wamiltons or Worx, ride plate too and Wamilton's stubbie cone. So one place to order the things from unless I have to use a couple of places (I might also have to use a friend's adress in the states if shipping is expensive, he can ship here cheap so its all about price).

Thank you very much,

Welcome!

I agree with those saying to get accustomed to the ski first... i rode my '12 SJ around for a season and learned a LOT, and still have way more learning to do. The stock setup has a ton of potential that gets wasted by poor technique. I'm tossing in footholds now, but won't mess with power for another season at least.

to make an comparison - a stock muscle car with 400 HP might run a 13.5 second quarter mile with an inexperienced driver, but run a 12.50 with a seasoned driver... there's a lot to be gained by seat time alone, tray time in our case.

You can just put as far back as possible to mid shaft and tray wall under electrical box. I'm using a rule 800gph from Amazon. Was cheap... Using the rotary switch from blowsion. Little costly but hear good things about it. Just glue pump to hull. 3m 5200 fast cure. Run out high on deck and be sure always going up. No little dips or half pipes in line lol. Didn't choose the automatic bilge though.
