Big Cylinder Problems

So I'm putting my engine back together after looking for my cooling problem. I got new O-rings installed and I'm torquing the head down. The middle bolts are torquing up fine, but the outer ones feel weird. I proceed and end up snapping one bolt. Off comes the head, purchase new bolts, assemble X2. Same deal, middle ones torque up fine, outer ones feel goofy. What do you know, I snap another bolt in a different hole. This time I hear a louder snap. What could that be?

There goes my riding season with that ski.

WTF caused that?

My assumption is that the pipe could have been too much weight for the cylinder. I think it cracked this past weekend because this is when my cooling problem started. I believe it jarred the O-ring enough to let a slight amount of water to leak in the cylinder. I found a slight milky residue in the manifold and the bottom of the case in the front cylinder. This cylinder is also the one that was 10 psi low on compression. What a pain in the ass.

ps. why are you using silicone gasket maker on the head?

I just put a light coating on the edge of the cylinder because I'm running a protec head. It's O-ring'ed sealed on the bore but requires a small dab of silicone on the edge.

Yes, it's a big disappointment considering I really got the tune down on this thing in the past couple weeks. The cylinder was ported and bored by GroupK, and man did this thing rip. The piston were brand new with like 10 hours on them as well. I just put them in at the end of last season.

Does anyone have a junk 61x cylinder laying around that I could throw the sleeves in?

Either that or does someone have a good cylinder for sale? Maybe a complete top end?

I have another complete 650 SJ for sale. Maybe we could work in a trade? Let me know.
