SXR best way to get off handle pole - to replace with same

ok -as stated whats the best way to tackle replacing the stock handle pole with another stock handle ple.. not mine - but some one with out computers around has to replace a broken stock one.. just thought to ask as anyone who has done it may in the end say why didn't i do it XX way??

Remove the old one, install the new one.
Pull out the steering and throttle cable, remove the switch harness and pull out through the top of the pole. Unbolt the pole, remove spring, then the pole.

Its not a hard job at all...Just start pullin crap apart.
