Best Long Term Engine storage method???

I have an engine that I am on the fence about selling or keeping to either build in the future or keeping as a spare. Just wondering if fogging alone will be enough for long term storage? The reason why I ask is a couple of times I have seen an engine completely filled with engine oil while stored. This engine might be stored for years... who knows.

Thats what I was thinking? Should I only pour it down the spark plug holes? I am going to leave the reeds/mani/carbs all on if I keep the engine. One of the 300 sx engines I came across had oil filled all the way past the throttle butterfly in the carb. To what level should I my yami 701?

I would pour it into the intake it will go through the reeds and you need enough to fill the crankcase area so the entire crank is sitting in oil.

tranny fluid has detergents in it that keep parts clean- also good for soaking parts in to clean them- takes a way long time, but works of your know you wont be using part any time soon- ive dumped old hardware in cup of atf and let it sit- cleans ok- i dont know if i could convince myself to fill and engine with it or any oil for that matter- fog the hell out of it and wrap in shipping plastic (the stuff thats like saran wrap) store in dry place- should be cool. ive never done it, but maybe store with dececant (sp) stuff they ship parts with to absorb moisture- just a thought couldn't hurt- dont put in motor just put packs inside wrap

tranny fluid is great, the oil gunks everything up. In fact, I use tranny fluid to clean the oil system on my car. Tranny fluid is the cleanest of any oils available.

Fog it out with engine stor giving it a little extra and you'll be good to go. Spray it down the carb(s) and in the spark plug holes and turn the ski over without starting it for about 10 seconds to work it through. Flush it out with anti-freeze too, it will prevent corrosion internally.

Before I pulled the engine out of the ski I had already ran salt away through the engine connecting it to both my flush kit and then a back flush kit. I have already fogged it properly. So it looks like I'm good to go. I might consider storing it in a bag/engine bag if I decide to keep it. Thanks guys.

I would just fog and forget if it will be stored inside. I never heard of filling with oil as a storage method. I guess it would work but just dont forget to drain it when you put it back in service.

when I store my boat up in michigan here's what I do...

pull the F/A..

start it.....

run for about 30 seconds and pour oil down the carb throat while running........maybe 20 oz's or so.....

it will start to smoke like all hell.........but it'll still run.........shut her down while still smoking heavily.....

i only do it like that becuase it might sit for a year, or 3....never sure when Ill make it back to that ski...
