Basically, title says it all.

I have seen Kawasaki 650s for well under $2000 (sometimes under $1000). Haven't been lucky enough to find a 750 in my budget range. Yam 701s seem pretty spendy too. Lets here your thoughts. I'm not brand specific.

Maybe I should just wait for winter when the prices drop.

Thanks,
Steve

Superjet. You can get a 650 SJ for sure for that price, but with a bit of patience, a 701 SJ can be had for that.

Suppose I should just wait it out and keep an eye on the forums and craigslist.

There is a 91 Kawi 650xs near me with a 750ZXi engine in it for $1800 (maybe less?) with 2 place trailer. Now, I don't need the trailer (unless it's nicer than mine) so I can sell it (or mine) for $3-400(?) so that brings the price of the ski down to $1400-1500 (or so).

How do the old 650 hulls compare to the newer skis? What about mods for freestyle (mechanical, not fiberglass)? Is the 650 a decent building block?

I've got some 24/7 footholds that I was going to put in my JS440, but I figured, what's the point? They will go into the new ski instead.

Thanks,
Steve

the title says "best freestyle ski for under $2000".

thatd be a 701 in a squarenose.

forget the kawis. theyre certainly not the best for freestyle at any cost..... unless youre jeff kantz on an x2

Well, I've never riden a Yamaha, but I have no allegiance to one or the other. Is the difference more hull design or mechanical? What makes a Yamaha so much better?

the difference is in both the hull and mechanical.

the hull is much more slippery on the water and condusive to freestyle. that matched with the awesome engineering of yamaha motors and the larger pump diameter allows for a much more versatile ski for freestyle.

just do a search. youll see that 99.9% will tell you 'superjet' for freestyle.

Hey bud, save the $$$ for a Superjet, where in the Seattle area are you located? We have a whole group that get together regularly.

I have been trying to sell a few 1995 701 square noses for around $1500.00 and its always a long wait for a buyer.. Save $2000.00-$2500.00 and get a round nose SJ..

right now there has been a few 1996+ superjets that have sold for $2500.00 and under.. (I bought a 1999 with mats, pole, bars, grips, bilge pump, plate, scoop and pretty clean all around) it wont be long till the winter shows its face and people start dumping thier toys off..

e-bay.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e....com:80/?from=R40&satitle=+270014699670&fvi=1
