Super Jet Best Aftermarket Engine

There may be a similar thread out there (but what the hell)...

What is the best engine out there with the criteria of...

- Best bang(performance) for the buck
- Reliability

AND/OR, If I were to send my engine to get my stock 701 "Tuned up" what exactly would be done to it (along with the price it would probably cost) instead of buying a whole new engine?

Just looking at my options in advance (hopefully)for my upcoming winter project!

Thanks guys!

Extremely happy with my Jetworks big bore here. It kicks ass, is affordable, and reliable. I've got over 230 gallons through it just this season without missing a beat.

Honestly, there is no answer. Each builder has packages that work and work well. XScream, Jetworks, LPW, Protec, RIVA.............The list goes own. I hear even Tim Judge may be looking at getting more into the freeride market.

What do you want your engine for.
Is it a surf engine, are you trying to flat water back flip, are you trying to blast past your mates on the lake with top speed

A well built engine does all of the above, no?

Well not really, if you told me you wanted to race your mates across the lake then I would change the port timing to make it rev on harder.
If you said you wanted a flat water back-flip boat I would change the exhaust port shape to make it smack on harder, but dont rev the crap out of it for ages.
If you said you wanted a surf boat I would put timing in it to make linear throttle response to allow small changes on the wave to correct the attitude of the boat
And thats just the porting, let along carb choice, ignition timing curve, pipe and compression

Humm....i race my mates across the river just fine, it's perfect in surf, it's linear, and I roll & flip on flat (the flips not off my own wake, mind you....boat's too heavy for that and I don't have trim). I won't beat a dedicated race boat, but I run in the low 50's.

I'm considering a similar project this winter. The first thing I need to know is the expected budget.

How much money in the bank to begin a serious conversation about big BRAP engine and pump?

I am a flatwater only rider.

Yup your ski engine is like a station wagon it does a reasonable job of everything. I can build those any day of the week
I thought the question is what is the best aftermarket engine out there. And to answer this I want to know for what type of riding.

That is why I said there is no correct answer.

Expected budget is a tough one to answer. Once you have the short block, pipe, carbs, ignition, pump and prop factored in you can spend well north of $20k if you're talking about "big brap". Of course, you don't have to spend anything like that much to get a very noticeable difference in power. Take a stock 701, add a head, B-pipe, porting, MSD enhancer and the new prop you'll need and you could be spending about $3k or so.

For what it's worth - I've got a XS1000 from XScream, a SS846 (Xscream, assembled by Thrust) and a SS865 (Xscream)...

I've ridden the XS1000 a ton this year since buying the first Matrix in March - with 0 issues. Put the SS846 in my wife's boat and was nothing but impressed... that led me to pick another XScream powerplant for the new build.

Jetworks in my choice. A ton of bang for the buck, reliable, strooooong. Art has alot of options, he can utilize your cases and cylinders to build you a stroker, or use your crank and build a big bore, or sell you ADA cylinders to build a serious engine, and my personal favorite-my Lamey. If I had it all to do over again I would have Art build me a budget minded 61X cylinder big bore stroker motor. It's the cheapest route to a serious motor and utilizes alot of off the shelf parts. (cheap to rebuild).

The question you need to be asking is the question you ask while looking in the mirror-how much do I want to spend. That is step #1.

I have owned and ridden alot of other builders motors out there and they are all awesome, it comes down to who you trust and enjoy talking to ALOT!!! (because there will be ALOT of talk about setting up the motor to your specific needs).
