Benefit of shortening my SN handle poll???

I've done searches on shortening handle polls, but all I have found are threads on how to shorten handle polls instead of why to shorten handle polls. I realize it is benefical, but I'm wondering why.

Can someone please enlighten me?

More control of the ski as it brings your weight forward. Helps a lot especially if you are tall. I am 6'3" and cut my RN pole ,that was on my SN, down 4" and it helped a lot.

kinda depends on how you like to ride, try someones ski with a shortened one before you hack it up is my suggestion

Thanks for the feedback Yeah I think I will try a buddies (kraqus) SN before I cut mine. The only tough part is my poll (for some reason) seems to be a lot lighter than other SNs I've ridden. I'm not sure what the prior owner may have done to it to make it this way. I once idled with my buddies SN with the cut poll and it felt a lot heavier. So I guess I need to first figure out why my poll feels lighter.

Also, is a cut poll more beneficial in either the surf/freeriding or flat water/freestyling?

A shorter pole brings your body forward more. You get more control over the ski when wrestling it around during aerial moves. It makes porpoising less pronounced. It can make the ski feel more responsive.
Too short of a pole can result in uncomfortable riding positions, especially for cruising medium to long distances.

A last bit of advice: Having been involved in the shortening of a Squarenose pole before, I would suggest getting a Roundnose pole. Shorten that and install it, it will ultimately be less trouble and look better.

I would agree dont mess with shortening an SN oem pole for severakl reasons
- The RN has the cast end with rivets the shorter pole can be easliy stuck back in an reattached.
- ThE SN regardless if OEM or AC can only be shortend about -2, if you attempt to shorten the pole more you might have to recutt and reshape your hood, I have a -3 SN AC and it will not fit between the Hood sides.

Get a RN pole and shorten it by 4 inches. Then get the "Hazard Bracket"....and swap all steering components from the SN to it.
You will also need a RN spring, but you can get that from Blowsion.

As far as benefits.....like day and night.
The pole is super light, your stance will be more aggressive as you will have to lean forward a bit which will decreased the purposing on your ski. Overall it has a great feel to it....and YES you will ride my ski and feel for yourself next time we hit the Delta.....:brap:

Oh man!....that chinpad on the picture is the one that got torn apart...

My SN still chinpadless.....LMAO!

I kind of like it .... it has a "Terminator" look to it with all the exposed cables....j/k
I am going to epoxy that old chinpad, cut it to fit and then turf it.

When I shorten the pole I did not realized the chinpad would not "fit" when hitting the hood, so after a few jumps......BAM! it was hanging lose.....
