FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- A crew aboard a shrimping boat were rescued after a group of bull sharks rammed and bit the vessel until it eventually sank off the Florida coast, according to an Associated Press report.

Captain Roger Schmall said a group of sharks had been slamming into the Christy Nichole's hull for four days. But then a 14-foot bull shark broke the boat's tail shaft, leaving Schmall and his crew of two adrift about 100 miles off the coast.

Schmall radioed for help, and another vessel picked the crew up about two hours later.

Schmall remained aboard his ship to pump water out while the other boat pulled it back to land. He said it was working for a couple of hours, but the waves eventually took their toll on Schmall's boat and the boat sank.

damn:bigeyes: There are definitely a ton of sharks around shrimpers especially when they cull their nets in the morning.

We like to head out early in the morning and find the shrimp boats so we can fish them. We've caught everything from Tuna to Sharks behind shrimp boats. I've never heard of them ramming a boat though.:bigeyes:


Shrimpers are also really cool about giving you shrimp for beer. We used to bring out a case of Nasty Light and they would trade us for a five gallon bucket full of fresh shrimp.:headbang: Pretty good deal.:biggrin:

The two species which most often attack boats are the Great White and the Mako.

It's very unusual for a bull shark to attack one.

I saw a kid run over a shark in Daytona and then his tail flippe dup hitting his hood.

I was riding and saw a guy in a black wetsuit without a ski behind a wave. SO I ride over to give him a lift to his ski, when I discovered it was a dolphin. So I rode closer, and it turned out to be thrashing around pretty hard, I saw that little fin and took off about 30 yards away to keep watching it. Then this guy on a square comes riding by, i start waving my arms, but he stares at me as he rides close. BAM! lands on top of those shark and the tail comes up and nails the hood on left side. His eyes went all :bigeyes: and he took off.

I've hit them before... I was heading out to "Shark Shallows" outside break at Ponce Inlet * and hit a hammer head right in the back... he took off like a bat out of hell...

i have seen 1 or 2 at the secret spot......Ewok swears one came up behind him as he was rear boarding his B1....said it got right up behind him just as he hit the green button.........just like the pix #0 posted.....
