it Kicked my Ass.

It has been since October/November 2006 since I have ridden surf. My wife, Izzy and I are on a weeks Vacation in Ft Morgan, AL (Gulf Shores). Surf yesterday was really nasty. Today it smoothed out but is still kinda rough. To the point that you have to work to get out past the first set of breakers. A few times the only way was to literally jump your way out.

Let me say I am way out of shape! after just a minute my arms felt like noodles. Got rolled in a wave the first minute but held on to dear life since I was alone. Just played around in the breakers and some smaller jumps. Managed 2 full plate to plate rolls but that was about all I had in me. Waves were ideal for trying a back flip but will leave that to another time when I am in much better shape.

Hope to get another ride in before the oil slick comes in. Have not heard how far out it is at this point.

Right on Harrison! Get it in now before all that oil ruins it all... what a shame man.

How's it down there these days? I haven't been to Orange Beach since I moved home. I really need to get back down there...

Funny how riding a ski can take so much out of you, you'd think the motor is doing all the work. Have you tried racing/riding bouys? That makes surf riding a piece of cake! I can usually only last about 3-4 laps before it feels like my heart is going to burst out of my chest.

Yeah, I raced for over 10 years. It is a workout.

My wife was playing in the sand with Izzy while I rode. I ragged her for not taking pics. "Did you see my two rolls?" "No, you did some rolls?"............. "Yeah, how about my back flip?" "You did not do a back flip........"

You need to relax more....I see it all the time where the flat water guy's get beat up cause they don't move with the water and try and fight it...lol.

I have only been in the salt twice. First time was in Long Beach chasing buoys with the ASAP Racers and the second was in March at the Liquid Militia ride in Pismo. I couldnt believe how tired I was chasing buoys even though the course is behind a break. And riding in the raw surf at Pismo was just straight scary seeing all those overhead waves in the back. I felt like I just got out of the ring with Mike Tyson and was beat up.

I cant wait to go back....

I resemble that remark, it takes me almost the entire first session just to get my legs under me and to start to go with the surf.

I worked out everyday and stepped up my cardio the week leading up to the Sebby freeride and had an awesome day of riding and burned 4 full tanks before the sunburn drove me off the water but haven't ridden or worked out again till this last weekend and I got my azz handed to me. It's amazing how quickly we get out of shape.

They say that a top placing olympic athlete that trains everyday could not even qualify if they were to take as little as 8 weeks off.
