b-pipe coupler fit-up - this may help you if you're having problems...

I found an easy way to get the coupler on both the headpipe and chamber if you're having a tough time... figured I would share it to help out anyone who also finds it being a PITA...

The first time I put my pipe together I just used some windex and I had it together in 2 trys... this last time I tried putting it back together it wouldnt go after about 2 hours! What a PITA... I tried stretching it in the vise, windex, and heating it up in the oven..... this is the only way I got it to work:

Put the hose clamps both on the chamber... expanded out so they slide well onto the chamber... then put windex on the coupler and slide it on the chamber past where it is supposed to sit... leave about 1/4" hanging over the edge... slide chamber up to the headpipe and push the little 1/4" onto the headpipe and then slip the coupler onto where it is supposed to sit... slip hose clamps over the coupler and tighten...

This should solve anyone having problems with fitting the coupler on the headpipe and chamber...

hope this helps someone...

I can't understand why folks have a hard time with it - I just put my coupler on the headpipe and chamber a day or so before my final assembly - and then when ready to install I took it apart and left it on the chanber, and it slipped right back into the headpipe with no trouble at all - guess I lucked out :arms:

I have always had an easy time with it... UNTIL THIS LAST TIME!!!! I dont know wtf happened... but it was unreal how difficult the thing was being!

As far as the coupler already being stretched-- I aleady had the pipe assembled for a whole week before I took it apart...

I just posted this in case someone is having a really tough time- tries all the normal solutions... and gets on here looking for some help....

i always keep mine on the head pipe. start the bottom of the coupler on the chamber and use a flat screw driver to wrap in up over the top part of the chamber. a slight turn of the chamber and in it goes. no windex or streaching required.

That is the way i have always done it before with no issues... I would normally do it that way...

Only try the way I said above if you have tried the way D-Roc just said and it just will not frickin work!

We are still talking about b-pipes here arent we? j/k

I know all the normal methods and tricks... this is just the only thing that worked for me this time... that sucker was being a biatch... I struggled with it for a while before I got this to work.... I just figured I could save someone some time if they ever get stuck. My garage is heated when Im working... so I dont get shrinkage :).

So why are you guys ever taking the headpipe and chamber off the coupler? I install and uninstall my motor with the pipe and chamber still connected to the coupler. Just slide the motor to the starboard side and they just slide out together, no need to ever undo the coupler. Anyone else do this?

i tryed and found out what the b stands for.
now i know the coupler needs to be on the headpipe side, not the expansion chamber side.

you pull your motor to change a starter? i just pull the pipe so i don't have to re-align.

My starter doesn't go my motor just lets loose. Also for my whole crew I have become the guy to disassemble/assemble any ski, so thats just how I do it.

i understand but there are times when it isn't worth pulling the motor but the pipe and coupler need to be undone. thats what this thread is about...putting the headpipe and chamber together.:fing02:

As long as you take the motor mounts loose from the hull and don't mess with the motor mount/bedplate adjustment, pulling the motor and putting it back in is a snap. No need to re-align if you do it that way.

I guess you never noticed how much you can move the motor mounts around when the bolts are loose.

you need to re-align your engine every time you remove it....... Trust me, I had an alignment issue that I did not know about, I assumed that it was the same....... same shims etc etc..... cost me 2 drive shafts and 2 intermediate shafts.

Taking your motor out with the mounts still on it does not mean it will be aligned when you put it back in .

You can move the motor mounts quite a bit when the bolts are loose .

I never will understand why people do this .Your loosening 8 bolts instead of 4 and it's as simple as marking each shim as you unbolt .

I don't remove the motor unless I absolutely have to. Yes its easy to pull, but for most things you don't need to take it out, you just need better methods of working on stuff in tight spaces.

Realignment sucks, or maybe I'm just not that good at it.
