ok.... so I tried to remove an old impeller to replace with a 13/16 concord....

and I broke a mounting ear off of the pump...

I dont think its a huge deal.

I bought a superjet a few years ago, and rode it for a year before I realised it only had 3 bolts holding the pump in...

so.... now.

how do I get the dang impeller off?

I had the spline holder clamped to a 400 lb table, and I used an 18" wrench on the the impeller tool... it wouldnt budge.

I could see the driveshaft twisting when I put weight on the wrench.

the last couple I did where much easier.

this is not the stock impeller either, its an older solas... so it has been swapped in the last 10 years or so.... freshwater only...

ideas?

suggestions?

Im tempted to just send it to impros to get it cutback as far as possible too...

out of ideas here, and tired of breaking stuff!

Get a spline tool and clamp it in a vice, slide you shat into the tool, and support the pump side on the bench.

Put you spanner, stilson, etc on the impellor, and then get a piece of long pipe on the end for leverage. Have a mate put some pressure on it until it twists slightly and while he's doing that, apply some even heat around the hub area with an oxy.

This way, it will come off with next to no force, and wou won't have to shock the hub to get it to crack off the thread.

There's probably better ways, but this worked for me when I had the same problem as you're having!

Get some gentle heat on it buddy and a damm long pole on the wrench youre using to increase your leverage.

Get a buddy to hold the housing while you pull on the wrench.

That should do it!!

I hear ya guys....

thanks!

All I was lacking was the buddy, and the heat.

Ive got no O/A torch at home... I can improvise...

I should have waited on another set of hands the first time....

get a click type torch from home depot $30.00 and a can of MAPP gas and heat where the prop connects to the shaft and use a pipe like everyone said .
I just took mine off my 97 with that method and it popped right off .
I heated it for about 2-3 minutes .

the spline tool is a must along with clamping it in a bench vise .
I used a large adjustable with a pipe on the end of that:wink:

oh ya it's reverse thread too ,that's important info :27:
