Anyone using hoodstraps?

I'm tired of sinking my X2. Sometimes when I throw a half ass roll and only get about 3/4's around, I knock the hoodlatch open, and the hoodseal comes up a little. Most times I can just re-latch the hood, but other times it will push the hood seal up to the point the hood won't close anymore. A couple times this has happened, I took on water in the carbs and couldn't get it started and moving quick enough. Next thing you know all you see is rideplate.
I decided after sinking it at the Rock and Ride, that I wasn't dealing with this anymore. I'm going to make some type of hood strap tonight, and was just wondering if anyone else had made anything up. I think I recall Legdrag Pete's boat having something.. I've GOT to keep my damn hood on!

Please keep your hood on, none of us want to see your engine lol.
Should have known, the Gold Medal Winner in the 07-08 X2 sinking championships would chime in first!!
Trust me, I don't want to flash all my bling around either.. Hate to discourage the all the other X2 owners! J/K. With the exception of Shawn anyway, I can't hold a candle to that ligthweight 701. I'll have one of those. I absolutely have to. I would bet any amount of money I could get that baby around in flat water with ease. No hoodstraps necessary!

Haha. We just have to laugh, and keep on hitting it. I was freaked out the first time I sank my ski. Now I'm just cheesing my ass off when I drag it back in.
I'll be strapping that baby down tonight. No more sinking for me. Not because of the hood, anyway.

my x-2 has the locking type latches would that solve the problem?

Nope. The hood takes such an impact sometimes, that it compresses it down to the point that the hood latch does nothing. The upper part of the hood latch has a depth of what, maybe 1/8"-1-4"? When my ski lands upside down or hard on the right side it flexes enough that the latch just falls right out. I have to unlock the hood latch, re-latch it, then re-lock it.
I have also tried moving the latches to get a tighter grip, and it will just put an extra amount of strain around the upper latch causing it to break off of the hood. Unfortunately, I've been there!
The main reason I want the straps is for times like when I busted the hood. You can see it in the carnage section. It totally busted the area around the latch, and there was nothing I could do but haul ass to the bank.

I have been looking at these latches really hard, they are rotary and you twist the latch and then snap it shut, they are available in black painted and stainless steel, its the first one on the upper Left.

Yeah they make good stuff. A lot of the telecommunications cabinets I install/turn up have southco latches on the doors. Thats crazy!
That is definitely something to look into. For now, I'm just going to make something that works. My next X2 hull may have a totally different latch setup.

Yeah they have a spring loaded one that has a certain amount of deflection built into it ,I think they are around $30.00 ea,not too shaby

Legdragger had them. I am going to add some to mine eventually, just like superX2 has above. My carbon hood doesnt seem to flex & unlatch nearly as much as the stockers do, so I have not been to motivated to mod it. Right now I just shove a piece of turf between the latches and it locks down REAL tight. Haven't popped it in months, but I havent been trying to roll the ski. (I want to add jetski haven brace before any real bad abuse)

I had mine locking REALLY tight for a while, but like I said it eventually just busted the area out around the latch.
You really think that carbon hull needs extra support..? Also are you running the stock braces, or just nothing right now? I would think you'd be fine with even one stock brace. Now that I think about it I can't remember if you have it setup with those, or nothing. If you have nothing then yeah I could see why you would want to wait!!
I still need one of those hoods like yours..

Hmm.. I'm interested. Got a link by chance to anything? I'll search for it tonight, heading to the lake now.
