anyone ever dug a test tank?

i want to dig a big ole test tank on my property. was thinking a 50 x 50 ft. ive got plenty of room and access to epuipment. i want to grade one side like a ramp so its easy to get a ski in. how deep should i go? want to b able to mess around a lil bit and not hit bottom. should i put a liner or fill it with sand? i was thinkin about buying a fountain for when its not in use to keep bugs out and so it wont freeze in the winter. i can also get access to pylons if needed. any imput would b appreciated.

thx

I thought of doing the same, but it's not my property so can't.

I'd recommend digging a much smaller hole that's just big enough for a ski with some room to spare and atleast 3-4 feet deep. Say a 10-12' long by 4' wide hole to allow for the jetwash.

Sand won't keep the water in. A plastic liner will. Sand will filter the water....

I saw the one Korns brother built at his school. It was concrete block and waterproofing materials I think. Simple design just threw the water back around to the front. It had a hoist to put a ski in and it could fit 3 seaters and snow mobiles. Vid of a snow mobile test is somewhere on here I think!

I would like to see the snowmobile test video, I have heard of this type of clutch tuning on Sled's. I am trying to get my hand's on a big propane tank that is to rusty to be safe for propane anymore and cut the top out of it and do some baffles in the back for jet ski testing. I agree a 50' x 50' area is gonna be pretty small but then again it never hurt's to try, it's going to get muddy real quick if you don't do a liner though.

We had one like this at the Seadoo stealership,it was set up with a pool filter system,it was a total biotch to keep clean and ended up being a scummy oily mess ,constant filter changes did little to no good,I would also check with the local enviromental management dept before going forward with this, any oil on the grond or that can be absorbed into the ground and youR a$$ is cooked.JMHO

yeah stay away from any enviro mess. they have alot of authority. 50x 50 doesn't give alot of room to ride. it would be good for testing on the trailer. i live on a creek and when it floods i have my yard as a test tank, in the summer it is alittle shallow. i dug myself a little muddy launch and have put old sidewalks and extra concrete down. i will take a picture of my dirty little launch. the creek is not very wide but long. i think from riding in it that 50x50 would be small. you could ride in it, but it will be very choppy and dirty. i say go for it. tell us how you make out. you can always dig bigger, i made a dirt track with my soil.

Nice backyard DRoc.
I have a stream fed 50x50 pond on my property. I have thought about diging & having a ramp put in for tuning and freshwater flushing on the trailer. There's not enough room to ride. It's might happen in the next 20 or so years. There's alot on "to do" list before it :Banane35:

I did try to convince my wife to let me "float" and old 550 hull on the pond and she doesn't like the idea. That will happen in the next 5 or so years just so I can see her freak out alittle:Banane01:

There's a sweet water containment pond right down the street that is full of rainwater now. I'm havin serious thoughts. We've got a big rainstorm going on rt now. Now back on subject. You can buy pond liner in sheets, which works pretty good. There's also a product called bensumec. I think that's it. Also Benseal. Same stuff. We used to use it to seal ponds at the golf course. It's a powder that you broadcast spread over the waters surface. Works pretty good. Don't know how well it will deal with agitation though.

good imput. i really need to get some stakes and go out there and mark off 50 x 50 to get an idea of the size. im only 30 mins from the ocean but it would b pretty cool to have a lil pond to dick around in whenever i want. i guess i will def need a liner and then put sand in it. i will look into the whole enviro aspect. all the other property around me is owned by a farmer and i threw the idea by him and the whole pollution aspect and he said he dont care. he said when he has extra chemicals from farming he jus dumps em in the drainage ditch. we will see what happens.
