Anyone else find rolling off boat wakes tricky at best?

Just seems like between dodging the other 5 guy's jumping and surfing, getting to hit the part of the wave you want, and only getting 1/2-3/4 around every time, its frustrating.

No, not really. Of course, it's all I got here.

Riding with five other guys hitting the same wake shouldn't be a problem AS LONG AS everyone follows the same etiquette.
File in one of two lines (one on each side), and hit it one at a time, go to back of the pack.

The other boats.....yeah, you need to look for them.

The only thing that gets difficult with too much traffic is how rough the water gets.

No such thing here, its a free for all, its usually one cruizer at a time, we only got to see one yesterday. Talk to Luke, you guy's really need to hit the river with us sometime, I'm sure we can put you up if needed.:popworm:

Same here, it's all I've got!
Actually, I haven't really tried too much off boat wakes. I really just wanted to get as close as possible off flat water, so I know when I hit a big wave I've got what it takes to make it. The few boat waves I've hit, I get a lot more air, but for some reason I'm not rotating as fast or tight. Can't really complain though, as I've only been trying for about a month off and on, and I'm steady hitting 3/4 rolls.
My bud X2 Rags is supposed to be getting his big ass cruiser fixed today. Hopefully next weekend I'll have a constant boat wave to tweak on and try to time right for some rolls. Can't wait. Mostly all we have are bass boats on KY lake, atleast the part thats closest to where we live. There are other parts of the lake where the big boys play, and we'll be venturing to those soon.

I guess that rules out David and those two dumbasses on the couch last weekend!! But back to the original topic....yes I'm getting very frustrated not being able to completely roll plate to plate off a boat wake. I keep coming extended once upside down and my rotation stops. The very next time I hit the wake, I think I'm correcting the problem, only to end up doing the exact same thing and continually landing upside down. Hopefully someday I'll figure it out.

Limit your pole to about a foot off the hood, I did that and it forced me to hunch over and stay there, spun fast.

ive been tryin rolls off boat wakes for some weeks now (only gettin 1/2 around) i find the waves are too steep from the dip down into the curl. kinda like tryin to put the square block into the circle hole. doh!

what ive found to get you around is when your coming into the wake go with your pre jump to the right pretty good and then crank that all the way left(this motion or setup for the trick will make the ski want to roll)and yea stay tucked once you leave

off of boat wakes I can only go a little less then half, I have never landed a roll before, but from what I have read above I have to tuck in way more then I am, but foot holds would help alot more as well

Well with my lack of power in both the x-2 and roundnose, I need a good size boat to be able to pull out a lazy roll. If the waves are small then it is much tougher. Timing is critical and so is the speed of the boat wake. I will usually try to be about 40' behind the boat if the driver is ok with it. I roll over the first white wave and hit the second clean wave. The closer to the boat the easier I find. Obviously your speed is important too. I cruise in slow and with just enough speed to be able to enter the trough nose down and roll on the power, and tuck tight. Practice, Practice.

Damm Adam, perhaps I got it wrong then. I was hitting the second wave behind the boat at around 15-20 mph, straight on and in a full tuck with the pole down, snaping the bars hard under power just leaving the wave.

turning the bars to the right on the way in, and turning left on the way out is where all of the Skis rotation comes from.
You guys are spot on with keeping the pole down.....carve the ski in to the right, and hang a hard left while accelerating off the wave.
If you think about how tall the wave is straight on,... double it if you hit it at an angle..........thats allot more wave to accelerate off....
When you get it right the ski will do 80% of the work.
Footholds, and bars are what let you enjoy the ride :)

hope that makes sense

Ok so if you hit the wave at an angle what angel works best. 90 degrees to the boats path. Or do you hit it with your path the same as the boat. I know that all waves are different but for the sake of argument that the waves are coming off of the boat at 45 degrees. I get more height off of a boat wake hitting the 2nd wave behind the boat traveling 45 degrees opposite the boat.
