The stock chinpad on a 750sx is huge and hits me in the stomach.
I want to take it off, cut it down and cover with H-turf.
Has anyone done this? Can it be done?
I see hi $$ aftermarket pads, but it does not seem like rocket science to cut the stock one down. Is it some kind of foam, and can I cover it with glass and epoxy for reinforcement if necessary?
Has anyone done this? Pix?
Thanks! and Happy New Year!

Sorry I dont have any pics, but I had mine done on my old ski and it looked great. I had an upholstery company do it and I used the black Hydro Turf cover. I will see if I have any pics on my home computer and send you a copy.

Thanx ironhorse
I am thinking B stock over the cutdown pad and avoiding the vinyl cover.
Any input appreciated!

It is simple to cut down. Just take off the vinyl skin to expose the foam. I used a large surrated steak knife and sculpted it. Took me 5 minutes to shape it the way I wanted. I took it to a upholstery shop and they stapled it back on(stainless staples) for $10. You can get a HT cover or AP designs as well if you want to lose the purple vinyl. They range from $30-$60.

Bingo.

I did the same, except I hot-glued and riveted the vinyl back one because I was super cheap (and still am to some extent).

I just cut mine down today, let me go get a pic, here's before, in comparison to my brothers sxi pro pad. Where I roughed the line with the sharpie is where I cut the plastic down because it looks like hell and way to long.

I am not to sure how turf will lay on it, so like I said its not super pretty but it takes alot of time to shave, I used a grinder with a sanding disc on it.

i have done many.

we too use a steak knife, then use 100 grit sand paper to "sand it to shape".

i have a couple of new, AP black pad covers here in stock if you want one. real easy to stretch on, and just staple it with a good arrow type gun.

i am not sure how you would turf over the foam. i think if you want that look, i would just leave the pad or foam off, and just use turf.

I made a few over the years. I'll try to find a pic. of the underside, what I have done is drill out the screw holes and install(glue in) machine bolts from the top, make sure you counter sink the bolt head . Then when you install the pad on the pole, use nuts -good-n-snug for those wrap speed subs!
