So lets play Devil's advocate today.

After all this discussion, who actually went out and bought one besides Wolfchild?

I ordered a pair of the Resqlink units from my local West Marine but haven't been able to get there to pick them up yet. Been working so much I can't ride anyways but I do want them before I hit the water again so I may have to get there before this weekend.

Edit: We also decided to only purchase a single unit for myself since my wife has no plans to ride anything crazy ever again. Apparently Hurricane Bill has left its mark on her.

I really want to buy something before sled season. I'm more worried about being broke down or lost in the woods on a sled than on a ski.

Well, I did some more searching this morning and found them on sale till the end of the month for the lowest price ever at Sails Marine.

$232.79 for the unit itself or $246.88 for the unit and a floating case.

I bought the unit with the floating case and my order came to $260.34 shipped to my door.

I love how they advertise it at as a "free" waterproof case... but the cost increases $14...

Lol, I caught that too. It's still the cheapest deal out there so it's all good.

I was going to order a couple pouches so I could sew one on to my lifejacket and have another for when I want to take it along on other trips but will wait and see what it comes with first.

Thanks for the link OCD. I just ordered mine. $250 sounds like cheap insurance.
I ordered mine without the floating pouch, I'll take the free 1st aid kit.

Glad to hear I could help. They shipped mine thursday but it didn't show up for this weekend so keep your fingers crossed that I don't get swept away in an outgoing tide tomorrow. Surf is going to be +1ft on 11 second sets so everybody better bring their A game, LOL. (where's the sarcasm button when you need one, lol.)

I received my ACR ResQlink tonight. Never quite been so keen to own something I never ever want to need to use.

It only took a couple minutes to go thru the online registration and I am all set.

Quality is pretty good actually. I playd around with a couple different configurations on my lifejacket but nothing I'm really happy with. Ideally it should be mounted high on the shoulder but that intereferes with my helmet so I will have to rethink it.

Here's a couple pics...

I logged onto the ACR website to snag a picture this afternoon and see that they added a new unit. It's the Resqlink + and it's boyant on it's own without the neoprene case. Pretty good idea considering the thing is meant to be used on water. Never understood why they would built anything handheld for the marine that wouldn't float.

At 5.4 oz and topping just 4.5 inches, the ResQLink+ is the smallest buoyant Personal Locator Beacon available today. Small enough to easily be carried in a pocket, clipped to a backpack or stored inside an inflatable life jacket.

Sails Marine still has the best prices at $252 for either the regular ResQlink or the ResQlink+

Living the dream.
Why not retro-fit some avalanche beacons? It sounds like that's what you really want for your crew. If you can get the whole crew to agree to use them... then why not just retro-fit some to make them waterproof? :dunno:

On another note... I like the ACR and since seeing this thread I am seriously considering one before next season.
