Any one play with pricing at amazon?

I am sure you have noticed how amazon prices fluctuate. I just order some gear yesterday on a product I have had in my cart for about a week. The price started at 110$, than dropped to 85$ the next time I logged into amazon a few days later, than dropped to 60$. So I bought everyone they had in stock. Now the price is back to 120$(MRSP)

So after doing a little bit of research it looks like amazon and other retailers will use cookies, your location, operating system, browser type, and other things(?) to determine what price they show you. This has my gears turning to try and figure out through the use of vpns; (changing location to poorer towns/cities), cookies; (visiting specific sites before going to amazon) etc if one can't figure out the perfect combination for the lowest price?

I never notice amazing doing this but I wouldn't doubt it. They have thousand of interns that just change the color hue on a button to see if more people buy a item.

I do know ALOT, of airline sites like Kayak, Expedia, exc.. do the same but the prices go the other way most the time. Google "best time to buy airline tickets" clear your cookies and enjoy.

This was true when I tested it in 2006. You could check a flight on one computer, and watch the price go up by the hour. If you logged in with another computer from a different IP, you'd get the original, lower price. I'm not sure if they still behave like this though.

That shows the lowest price of my item only going to 72$. I bought it for 65.

Interesting timing on this thread, I was just shopping a part for my BBQ on Amazon, found one for $25 with prime, waited to check local options, checked back today and it was $36 with Prime, or $33 no Prime.
Went with Ebay this time.. .

Clear your cookies and try it again. Also look for the part without logging into your account. I was reading another article on how they charge more for prime members to make up for the free shipping.
