And the sh$#% storm continues....

UPDATE - Shannon (a nice new girl) at IMPROS just called me and said my stuff is shipping RIGHT NOW. She is e-mailing me tracking too.

Big Kahuna - yes, I called Impros on Friday when my stuff didn't show up and got no answer. Just a message that they would be closed until Monday.

if my GF (or wife) worked in a brothel - I could see this as a valid scenario.

However - if I call Impros, and talk to Paige - I expect to be taken care of.

Just like when I call X-Scream and speak to Radney - and he sends me what I need.

same situation.

last time I checked Radney was not the secretary. Years ago when I called to order something or check on something from Wamilton, one of 3 people would pick up. Wamilton, Kevin Collins or the Secretary. You want to guess who I would talk to about any order. It was not the secretary.

Call Paige and ask here what prop to run with a Lamey 10mm stroke flattop motor, Type 8 or 9 or Speedwerx dry pipe, running a 140mag pump and your are planning to ride in really rough conditions.

There is a reason I personally talk to the person who knows and not the person who is there to open the mail, answer the phone. I rarely ever have any issues with buying parts from any company. I learned long ago how to do it effeciently and effectively.

There is a flip side to this ,I being a business owner know it all too well, everyone wants to talk to the man in charge.I personally have yet to see a dime change hands over the phone, and time spent on the phone cannot be recovered, its lost time that could be put too much better use ,in Daves case probably custom machining props and filling orders, now imagine if everyone that called Impros just had to speak to Dave personally.Would anyone ever receive their impeller in a timely fashion, odds are probably not.Thats why some of those responsibilities are delegated to others such as Paige.:cool2:

Agreed, I know all too well of what you speak.

how efficiently and effectively can the "man in charge" do the work that needs to be done if he's on the phone answering questions about when something shipped out?

It's one thing if you're calling Dave, Chuck, Pat, Paul, Randy or Art with a technical question that needs answering - but if you're asking for the head dude just to ask when something can ship out...that's a douchebaggish move on your part.

I don't know what you do at your company, but I imagine that you don't get a phone call for every little thing that might go wrong on a job. If you do (or allow it to happen) - then you are micromanaging.

how efficiently and effectively can the "man in charge" do the work that needs to be done if he's on the phone answering questions about when something shipped out? That is simple common sense. If there is no problem then Paige or whoever should be able to handle it. It is when there is a problem that you would ask for Dave. Your reading a bit too much into this.

Well, in this case, a prop was ordered, did not show up on time, that is the time to start calling the person who can make it happen. Sure, I could call Paige or whoever and ASK "hey, can you check if that part shipped out" Again, a nobrainer. But what if Paige, Suzie, Rodney or whoever is the problem and not Dave the Machinest, Phil the composite guy, Who you gonna talk to. When there is a problem, you go to the person that can solve the problem

I have a phone at my desk, a cell phone on my belt and a Southern Linc (Nextel for those who do not know what Southern linc is) Radio on the other side of my belt. I am a project manager / estimator. If there is a problem on a job with a customer, Architect, Construction Manager, GC or one of our men has a problem, if they call the office and talk to the Secretary 99% of the time they will still have the problem. Sure, they could call the owner to help, If it is an installation problem he can help, but if it is about finishes or problems with materials or pattern layouts he is just gonna turn and call me and ask what needs to be done.
your last analogy does not fit as far as I go.

So, lets just clear this up.

you ordered a part, it did not show up.
You call again, part did not show up.
At this point, you get on the phone or email (I prefer phone - more personal) and you call the person that can get it straight or you find out the problem and not get on a internet message board and bitch about it!.

(Insert your favorite "ruffled feathers smiley" here)

Just how many phone calls is he to make? Once you give the cc#/paypal ect to the seller, and if the seller does not say "WE ARE OUT OF STOCK" then the buyer would/should be thinking his stuff is on the way.
Ide rather hear "we are out of stock, will ship in a week" rather than coming home each day and looking for NOTHING for two weeks!!

BK dont worry if you need some.. you can always go lay some tile! har har har!

EDIT: for the record im not and I dont think anyone here is saying Dave is a bad dude. just a lil iffy on the shipping/notifications.

I agree, if you paid, you expect service. I bought some parts from someone here almost 2 weeks ago, I cannot put my ski back together until I get them.............. arrrggggggggg

I was more focused on getting some material between the key and the worn- out keyway, and didn't notice I was pulling material off the key itself. It was a sketchy fix at best, and neither of us really expected it to hold very long.
We figured it was worth a try though since the alternative was a 5 week wait. BTW, I don't think the loc-tite will hold very long either, actually it has held up 19 min longer than I expected.

But at least Aaron got out on the water today... I'm sitting here waiting on real pistons and new domes.

Oh yea back on the subject. Scott, next time you gotta weld some cast iron, cast steel, even billit steel. I know there is a seal just inche from that key way. But put a lil preheat to the area to be welded get it up to about 150*-200* and after the weld wrap it up in fireblanket or something close and let that thing cool off as slow as it can. That will help with some crystalizing of the weld in such a small area as that key.
You might know this and if you do, cool. If you ever need any exotic flavor weld rods, or heliarc rods let me know.

BK, never try this without adult supervision.

I actually do know about pre-heating, but I didn't even think to try it in this case. Oops... letting it cool down slowly is also a good idea. I was cooling it off as fast as possible with the shield gas. ;-)

Thanks for the tips. I learned everything I know about tig welding by some trial and lots of error, so any info I can glean from others with more experience is cool.

I had 2 props and a hooker impeller that was suppose to ship a month sooner that it did with impros as well, polisher excuse lasted a month till I got any my stuff back, still didnt ship the week it was suppose to after they came in,so he sent them to me next day air,and charged me 43 bucks for shipping,I would think he could have at least shipped it free

Impros FAILS AGAIN.

I got the first Hooker (a 12/18) and it's rides EXACTLY the same as my Concorde 13/17. That part is 100% my fault. So I called DAVE and asked for a bigger Hooker (OMG I hope I never say that in any other context).

I explained that I wanted to go ahead and buy another one instead of repitching this one because 1) ATS_Scott is getting a cast Lamey and may want to try my Hooker. and 2) I want to RIDE instead of WAIT.

So I PAY right then and I ask for 2nd day air shipping so I could have it today.

Guess what? UPS came and went....no Hooker.

In the mean time I am cruising around on an old Solas 15/19. It hooks up better than the Concorde and Hooker, but still breaks free on a setup wake.

Update. Called Shannon and it went out a day late. Should be here tomorrow. Nothing like paying for air shipping so you can get a part in the same amount of time that ground shipping takes.....
