who has run it and are what is the good and bad? with gas being so expensive, sounds like a good alternative. besides having to drill out a couple of jets, what else would have to be done?
i ran it in go peds years ago
its was good for power
hard to get
attracts moisture
and eats rubber as in crank seals
X2, I've run some thru my wife with similar results. :bigok:
Do you have to run it full strength or can you mix it for varied strengths?
As for the seals, don't they say the same about racing fuels? You are supposed to drain all fuel out of the tank and purge the lines after use.
ive never had that problem with seals and draining my tank. but i do run the carbs empty if my quad is going to sit.
we are already blessed with 10% fermented corn at the pump. How much more trouble do we need?
When you say alcohol i assume you mean methanol....? We run methanol in the mircro sprint engines i build and it is great for power thru compression. I run compression ratios up close to 20:1 (like diesel compression ratio). A 270 cc cr250 based engine on methanol with a single 40.5mm carb can make 97 hp @ 9800 rpm. However there are alot of negatives..... the micro sprints must clean there carbs after every race, plus i split the cases and rebuild these engines after every 15 races so the long term effect on the seals isnt ever really determined because they get taken apart so often...
This should fit quite nicely into Cliffs teardown schedule as of late.
Cliff, Art tried to set up a big bore stroker on methanol for one of the PRO freeriders this year! They got it dialed in and had awesome performance, but they could not get the motor to stay together. I don't know all the details other than I know they ditched the idea after a couple of motors hand grenaded.
