Air in fuel lines

I have a 1987 JS 550. I was riding it at the river this weekend and it ran great, however when I stopped for a but and then got back on it it would only go about a quarter throttle then start to bog. There is air in the fuel lines also. Anyone have any suggestions of what would cause this?

It's a small piece of brass with a very small hole in the center to restrict the fuel on the return side so that the carb stays primed.
