after a prop

After i put a solas prop on my 701 rn, it bogs down if i hit the throttle. but if keep blipping it its normal. is this just a tuning issue? and if so which screws should be turned and how much. no matter how much i read about tuning carbs i can never fully understand the concept of tuning them. thanks.

What are your current carb settings? Did it run fine a few days ago with your other prop or last season with your other prop? I ask as it might simply mean a stuck N&S or dirty filters.

ive never touched the carb settings, and it ran flawlessly before the new prop. stock carbs, cleaned the wire mesh flame arresters and took some out to allow more air flow. stock engine, exhaust, etc. it wouldnt be the ride plate would it? i put an aftermarket d cut one at the same time as the prop.... i dont see how that could effect anything tho

What's the prop pitch and what's been done to the motor?

It could be too much prop and bogging down. It could be too little prop and it's slipping. You may not have sealed the pump up properly causing cavitation. The cavitation would be the most obvious at low speed and high throttle. It'll act fairly normal once you're up to speed.

I highly doubt the ride plate has anything to do with it.

Obviously, go back to the other prop to see if it returns to normal. Then prop down if it does.

by removing screens you have reduced the vacume that is needed to pull the fuel through the carb. you may need to lower your pop off to correct the problem. this has to be done frequently w/ a/m arresters

Not likely the cause of the problems described.

Did the prop spin free in the pump assembly before you installed it all back in the boat?

im pretty sure it did, i think this weekend ill put the old prop on and see if the problem still occurs. one thing just came to mind, I didnt have the spline tool so i went mid evil on the midshaft with clamps and such. ended up geting the spline tool, but could i have messed up the midshaft to the point of causing this problem?

Make sure all parts spin freely when taken apart (midshaft and driveshaft) and that will eliminate them as the culprit. I would imagine it would take a very steep prop to bog your motor down like described so a mislabeled prop doesn't seem to likely to me. Sounds like you are having fuel delivery or electrical problems that by chance happened to come out at the same time you replaced the prop.
