advice on buying used superjet

I thought I had a deal on a primo 92, but, when faced with the prospect of separating himself from it, the seller decided he didn't want to sell after all!!
So now I found another, this one is a 95, totally stock squarenose, looks fair, no cracks and the price is less than $1500.
When I lifted the hood, we found the hull was half full of water! Rain? maybe. The owner says he only used it once about 2 months ago, so we dump the water out of it,(it smelled musty like its been there awhile) but it fired up, no problem.
I am wondering if this water may have caused any kind of internal damage? I am going to do a compression check on it, what should it be, 134-150?
Anything else I should look for? Thanks for your inputs.

Do a compression check.
If it was only half-full of water, it should be fine.
Of course, there could be water in the flywheel area, but I doubt it.
1500 is a good price. Talk him down on account of the water.

yea 1500 is around what i paid for a pretty much stock 95.

id say go for it.

Change the plugs, rebuild the carb, replace the fuel filters, run some synthetic through it, and you're fine. $50 total. :woot:

Spend a little bit more money, and get a SJ with a 701, footholds, al. pole, etc....

How about the compression, am I right with the 134-150 numbers (as long as both cylinders are nearly the same)?

It should be right along 150.

If its a cheap gauge, try and check it on something that you KNOW the compression of so you dont mislead yourself. The compression should be 150 though in both cylinders. Within a few psi of eachother. Does this come with a trailer? Depending on cosmetic condition, 1500 is a pretty good deal. I paid 1400 for my 91 650 SJ with a dual standup trailer. Talk a few dollars off for water. Mention it couldof gotten into the flyhweel and destroyed the bendix/flywheel/stator (unlikely but possible)
