A few FX-1 Questions

Well i was really hoping to ride my new fx1 for the first time yesterday but the weather didnt permit. So ive been thinking about mods more and more and im just wondering a few things.

1. Do SJ poles fit on a fx1? and would a RRP pole look as good as it does on a RN?

2. Ive seen some FX-1s with a recessed bracket and channeled hood, does anyone sell a kit like that or is it all custom fabbed?

3. Anyone know how deep the rivets that hold the stock gunwale pads are? And can the pads be wrapped in Vinyl? I can get black Vinyl cheap and i have enough turf to do the bottom, so would that be a quick fix?

4. If i buy a toploader grate, and eventually switch to the 144mm pump will i still be able to use it? Ive been reading about pump swaps but i really dont feel like i have a full understanding about what works best.

5. Blowsion sells a primer kit, is it a very simple install or is there more to it then i think? I plan on having my ski at the lake asap, is it something i could install real quick on our dock then go ride? Anyone have instructions??

6. If i order a bildge kit from blowsion, can i install it without removing anything or will i be unable to mont it in place with the motor and stuff in the way?

7. Anyone make replacement bumpers or the handlepole braket cover in black? if not can i paint them black??

Im sure i have more questions, im just excited to get back to riding especially on something better then my 550! (P.S. my 550 repaint/returf is done, im no where near as good at turf then most of you guys)

1. Ive seen a few RN poles on FX1's, not sure of the process though. an RRP on an FX1? id like to see that as well, sounds interesting.
2. Custom Fabbed as far as ive seen.
3.Not a clue LOL
4. I dont think so.
5. the reason i responded LOL, its very simple and only takes about 15 mins or so if you are at all mechanically inclined. its pretty much a necessity i think. If you order from blowsion im pretty sure they send instructions with it. Wamiltons, JSS and a lot of other vendors sell kits too.
6. Couple of choices on this one, you can glue the bilges to the bottom of the hull, or run a bilge bracket that fits on the midshaft holder. If you glue you dont have to take anything out at all, just dry out the spot, scuff with sandpaper, and glue away. downside is then you have to wait for the glue to dry. you can put in the bracket without removing anything too, although its more of a bit*h.
you want the bilge/s back as close to the midshaft and the coupler as you can get it.

I'm not positive on this but I thought SJ poles were longer than FX-1 poles making the change pointless if possible.

You can buy primer kits from just about any jetski shop and your best bet is to buy a bilge pump from wally world, use 5200 to glue it to the hull, and never worry about it again.

i wanna say the fx pole is 2" shorted but the rrp is fully adjustable and looks hot on a RN, just wondering it its as sexy on a fx.

I think im gonna do out and take a look in the bilge and see how hard it would be to mount a pump without moving anything.
I guess ill drill out the rivets on my pads and see what i can do about a quick color change. I have some medium length rivets i used on my 550 that im hoping i can use to re attach the pads with.

Any places sell the kits cheaper then blowsion as far as primers? I need one for my 550 and fx1

actually its raining so im not doing anything yet...

rn/x1 pole have different lengths for the steering cable (from the bar mount to the cable holder) i beleive..

recessed is custom fab

use turf-ditch the vinyl-slippery as hell

different grates unless you use the fx1 pump shoe like yamanube-

i havnt had primers or chokes on any of my skis-if they sit for than a week i just manually primerr them by putting some fuel in the hole on top of the f/a

ive had good luck with krylon fusion black paint on the purple, but i think someone out there has made replacemnet ones..mebbe hydroturf. turf the rails

The only reason i havent started turfing the rails is because 1 i suck at turf, and 2 i only have enough left for the tray. I can get vinyl locally and wrap it real fast then just turf the tray and go.

Will the krylon work on the bumpers even though there soft unlile the bracket cover?

And yes i know i need to ride before upgrading, but its supposed to rain the next 9 days according to the 10 day forecast, so now would be a good time to do what i can. Plus ive been working 40 hours the past two weeks so its alot easier to spend money knowing i have those 2 checks on the way.

The FX-1 pole is 2 " shorter than a PRE-08 superjet pole and requires its own stearing cable the rrp pole fits great but requires a extention on the stock fx-1 cable or a RN cable

custom only

they can be easily replaced with screws or replace with turf

if you swap pump shoes the fx 1 grate will no longer fit

Primer simple but should be done at home

they usually mount to the midshaft housing some glue them in in front of the flywheel cover

never found replacements

another question, im guessing its stock but i could be wrong. How do i use the hose adapter so i can start it at home? Its some kind of quick disconnect thing i guess but i have nothing that fits on it. If no one knows what i mean i can get a quick pic

Protec sells the extension i would need right? is it something that is just plug and play?
and if i shortened the RRP 2 inches would i still need it?
If i get a RRP pole it wont be for a while but its definitely i mod i have in mind.

Unless you're planning on flushing it after a ride in the surf quite often, just crank it up dry and don't run it for more 15-20 seconds. That will at least give you a chance to ensure it works before you drive to the lake.

BTW - I'm in agreement with Mile9c1... Ride the thing first and then worry about all the upgrades, accessories, etc. between rides or when you're no longer satisfied with the current setup.

First off, the pics are from my phone so sorry about that...
Whats this? Is it the thing that shoots out water on most yamahas just filled in? If i turf my ski can i just remove it and terminate the hose that goes to it?

Anyone had any experience with this stuff?

Is this the factory hose hookup? if so what do i need to use it?

Should i drill out those holes and rivet this in place? its kinda just stuck there

Same here, drill and rivet? I have some 5 or 7 mm rivets i cant recall

Does a RN front bumper fit a fx1?
What kind of throttle lever fits good? I hate the feel of the stock one and the umi level on my 550 feels good, should i just go with it?

i agree with both of you, i was close to riding yesterday but it would have been miserable with the weather how it was, plus i had been finishing up my 550 for the past 6 hours, and worked about 5 before that. I do plan on riding in daytona in a few months, plus id like to be able to start it up at home to tune it a bit if needed. Unless its an expensive adapter it would be nice to have.

You can't tune a ski out of the water...if the engine isn't under load, you're just pissing in the wind.

Terminate the rooster tail thing. It was meant to be a visual thing and serves no other purpose. I highly doubt the RN bumper will fit so just turf it and it will look 10x better. Heat and contact cement and you'll be amazed at what you can do with no experience.

So bottom line...read up on turfing and hose hook ups, put a screw or rivet in the tail pipe, leave the HIN alone, and take your own advice on the throttle lever and get the same kind for the FX-1 if you like the one on your 550. Also I've never used that vinyl dye before but I've used similar stuff and it worked pretty good.

The hin question is not an option anymore. I went out to see if i should bother and i touched one side and it popped off in my hand. The rivets i have fit perfect, just gotta drill the holes and pop it in. Id like to turf the rails 100% but i only have enough left for the bottom of the tray and maybe the front bumper and id like to wait on spending more on turf till winter when i repaint the ski.

Will the umi lever on my 550 fit on the fx1 or will it require an adapter? Id like to try it out on the fx or even consider swapping them since i wont be using the 550 as much.

Also does a SJ hood seal fit a fx1? Mine is a PITA to put on and is coming unglued, but it should be a problem for quite a while.

Anyone know a substitute for underpadding? I would like to turf the bottom of the tray for now, but dont have any underpadding and i dont want to wait for shipping.

Also, anyone verify if rustoleom (spelling??) spray paint will stick to the pole cover plastic? I have some flat black rustoleom left over from my 550 id like to paint the braket with, wrap/paint the side padding black, then turf the tray/bumper with black and just live with the purple lower hull till winter. then again, i still have a purple chinpad Its in good shape though, only the plastic parts and turf are looking rough.

For the padding...go to walmart and get the blue camping mat for around $6. It's pretty good, cheap, and won't really absorb water. Yoga mat, however, will absorb lots of water so don't buy that.

you'll want to use the right paint for those plastic pieces-they flex and you need flexible paint or itll chip quickly

just spend a few bucks and buy a can of fusion
