Blaster 96 WaveBlaster 1 (Redemption)

About maybe... 2 rides into my latest iteration of my last B1. (Blursed) I determined that I had once again not built what I wanted. So like any ADHD ridden rider. For sale she want, sold she go.

I hadn't given up, basically every other B1 I ever ridden I absolutely adored. All that said, I wasn't really feinding for one, but kept my eyes out for a good deal. Specifically want a 96 twin carb. I have to date not had a dual 38 ski, wanted to see what it was all about.

Found my self Saturday morning Superjet shopping frankly cause I just need another b-pipe, stumbled upon this. Drove to Destin Sunday.

Figured worst case, I get a 61x/62t, sell the chamber, make it stock and send it on it's way.

Turns out it's super clean, rides amazing, and ah man I LOVE the thing. Doesn't really get me a loose bpipe (original goal) now does it.... IDIOT. Did nothing, put a whole tank through it, airbox flew off. Minor setbacks.

So now what. sigh another ski project just what we needed.

Gonna try and keep it simple. it's stock as a rock + a bpipe, really nothing crazy I've found so far.
Only things are a @JetManiac waterbox & a RIVA rear outlet. Which is nice.

Problems:
- weird idle transition... and idle. gonna go through carbs, got some fresh kits on the way, plans to jet it to FPP settings, hope it's already there with just a leaky N/S or something stupid.
- wear ring / impeller gap, gonna inspect and shim see what that gets me. Looks clean enough, but cavitates a bit when you do something stupid on it.
- fuel selectors bypassed.. normally I do this but on this I want a selector for SURE

Things I've already triaged
- tank check valve was blown out, replaced with a new
- missing small waterbox strap
- airbox flew off (2 of the 6 carb mounting holes are stripped lame)
- head pipe bolts 1 backed out, other 2 were loose as hell. All mismatched hardware. And ones helicoiled to M8
- steering shaft is tight, got it better but this won't matter

Mods planned:
- UMI (no particular reason why just a want)
- Bars probably
- Advance the stator a tiny bit (if it isn't already)
- play with nozzles & impellers
- intake grate maybe
- shaved head (wish this was easier to procure)
- reeds (if I find metal ones still)

Just want the thing to work! And work well!
Stoked regardless

Got the UMI in
way more of a pain than I was bargaining for on an afternoon job, oh well. Still kinda tight, guess a cables in my future.
Didn't have any grommets on hand, future me problem. Also probably should have shmoo'd the UMI on, another future me problem
I'd like to get the extra throw out of the steering, but seems like it binds up on the nozzle, end link out the back if I scoot it over that far. Need to play with it with a clear head

So an update on this unit.

Immediately exploded a steering nozzle (cause I'm an idiot). I was super unhappy with the steering cable anyway that was in there. Turns out it was either a GP/b2 cable just shoved in there with the stock bracket bent over it. Weird.

Replaced with a clean freshwater cable. new steering nozzle I spent some time shaving the sides to get more throw out of. Love making this thing spin.

Went after the driveline, put in a better wearing it was spent, stock impeller was also pretty worn out and cavitate'd a bit. Put the 13/16 concord I got from @brapperdoodle with the SN in it. totally forgot I hate this impeller I'm not a big concord guy and it's defo way to short for this thing lost 3+mph. so may go back to a stock stainless buddy, hookers probably overkill for this thing.

Went to rebuild carbs as it idled like garbage as was a pain to get past idle. Took the carbs off and some dummy did this.

Go figure. Carbs were otherwise immaculate despite being salty crap on the outside, stripped screws on the top. Got some fresh carbs from @yamahaulass thanks again man. Came in clutch.

Got it all back together, plumbed back in a fuel selector because well it seems important on this ski.... Runs AWESOME

Idle like a dream first click.

Only 2 issues I need to resolve.

I forgot to put a fuel filter in there like a dummy.
And for whatever reason it bogs a bit under load on the ON setting, which is using the tank pickup I've never used before, and maybe the selector from my stash is junk. Hopefully something simple.

I have yet to open the ebox or the stator cover. But I would be surprised if I didn't find something, it revs FAST. Feels super good. Compressions an ordinary 150, so maybe an MSD box or shaved flywheel something going on.
