what about building a manual boost controler to activate the valves off the intake system

Truefully all of the 787 raves work off of exhaust pressure and they work just fine, the 951 valves can be converted to use exhaust pressure also by drilling one small hole in the rave valve bodies and connecting the actuating hose from one rave to the other, takes only a few minutes, after that its just a matter of dialing in the correct spring rates and adjustments to get the most bottom end out of the engine.Simple is best!

got a detailed writeup on converting them?

I attempted to let the seller of the engine know of its condition (who will go un-named, this is not the forum for bad mouthing anyone and I wont let it go there), I was answered with a bunch of things foud in my other posts about machining the bottom of the cylinders to lower port timing, the fact that I already bought a rossier head... ugh I give up- it was one expensive core thats all I can say. no more salt water motors for me.

update bottom of the cylinder is salvageable, case is ok. I got the crank out today, there was rusty nasty stuff laying in the lower half- but it cleaned up. The bearings on the crank are good with the exception of the 2 on the pto end. Are the wrist pin bearings supposed to be in a cage?? When I took it apart needles fell everywhere!! the new bearings I got are in cages. So a set of pistons, gaskets, crank rebuild, and some machine work and shes new again.

Who sold that to you PM me if you don't want to say on open forum ,I can keep a secret. There is really nothing to the rave conversion besides drilling a hole,I will see what size bit it takes. The stock bearings are cageless,if you think about it in terms of surface are the cagless bearings are superior as all of the surface is bearing, most people use the caged bearings and they work just fine also.Glad to hear everything was salvagable.

I didn't want to cut my sj box open to find out but, from the looks of it the main thing about a water box is to have a baffle that divides the box and a hole or opening across the bottom that will be under water so that the inlet is up high has to go down into water to go thru the hole up and exit out.

this is just my observation not a technically expert factual statement. anyone who knows more feel free to add to or correct me.:Thinkingof_:

that is correct. the inlet tube is just an opening at/or towards the top, the exit tube is welded into the box at the top, but the bottom of the tube is almost at the bottom of the box. this keeps a lot of water from buildng up in the box before it begins spitting it out. some people remove the baffle to help with hp.

The baffles are gone in mine, it helps out.

That engine need to go waaaaaay back if you plan on freeriding it,dont skimp on the crank get a new one or a hotrods new one or you will be buying some new cases when that thing snaps a rod.Lookin good though!

Well its been some time, Im almost done building my car so I can stop driving the brown bomber to work. Ill be back at buying ski parts real soon.

I have lots to go, This weekend Ill be picking up the last 2 bearings for my crank that were shorted in the rebuild kit I bought- then its off to the machine shop to be rebuilt, welded and trued. After that its time for a top end and gasket set. I have the jug and cases all bead blasted waiting to be painted.

I still need to get carbs, and my Advent T4- the rest is all plumbing, wiring, and cosmetics. If it werent for my car blowing up this would be done already, I had a minor 4,000 setback :fingersx: hello 460hp at the wheels.:scared: I guess it was all worth it. now to get back to building a really fast ski. stay tuned

Good to hear that this hasn't been completely abandoned.

back from the dead! I got some carbs today, they wont fit without some work. I cut out some 1/4" aluminum plate to the shape of the intake flanges on the case and drilled for the bolts. The carbs I bought came with adapters so I will be welding them to the plate and using a carbide burr to open it up similar to the shape of the inside of the stock intakes.

I attached some pics so you can see just how close the fit is in here.. The engine is just empty cases for now for fitting. I am having the PTO turned down to eliminate some mass and leaving the center so I can bolt up my adapter. Im having a billet part made to bolt to the sea doo pto and give me a threaded stub to put on a billet kawi coupler. I am going to need to shorten my shaft about an inch and a half. OR- i could have the billet coupler drilled out and keyed to fit the 951 crank.

I also still need to have the pipe welded back together, but Im waiting until everything else is together and bolted down before I make that permanent move.

Holy expensive tool chests batman!! I want one of those but no way I could justify it... I thought I was king of the hill when I bought my stacking ball bearing chest and it's like the middle section of yours with a small box on top.

And it has a big payment plan to go with it... look on the bright side, I only owe 6 grand on 20k worth of stuff.. the Snap-On man loves me and my money. Yet another reason my ski isnt done yet.
