93 B1 into MeanGreen

Only spent a couple hours on the ski today. frankly it pissed me off and didnt have enough time to really dig into it. Got to see how the green ended up in the light today. I was impressed, it looks better than i thought it would. started doing a few coats on the seat. That grey paint also seems to be working or atleast in between the drying of coats i pressed on it and no cracking or rubing off. Also attached is a picture of the handle bar set up. It is a bike setup make by GT. Thought that might need to turn green too. I also tried to get out the broken motor mount bolt. What a pain in the ass. I broke two extractors and dremeling out to make a flat head set up didnt work either. Some of you might remember i also have a broken bolt in the FP manifold which i have to get machined out. Any ideas for this one. Should i just take a 3/4" bit to it and start with fresh SMC? Any help, i love.

i would have used a little heat on that bolt before trying the extractor. heat always helps when separating two metals.

as for the factory pipe manifold, i would drop it off at a machine shop. if you don't get it right you will be pissed when the headpipe falls off all the time.

got a few things done. filled lots oh holes including the gas gauge window. also the motor put back together. colors are starting to come together.

engine is all back together. just glaseed the front and rear lip. the only glassing left is thickening up the foot wells and to create a compartment under the back deck. going to put a 7'' by 13'' hatch like shown in to carry some flip flops rope beer etc. it should be about two feet wide, 10 height, and have a depth of about 4'' inches.

I would be a little easy on heating the hull insert for the bolt. too much and you risk melting the insert loose in the hull. penetrating oil or visegrips. it breaks you drill it and tap.

Cool idea with the hatch. You might want to beef up the transom while you are in there. Here are some pics of that process (which is pretty common on full effort blasters) on the wavejunkie website:

Its already done. Just finished that this week. Actually that was what gave me the idea. I wish i had thought of adding the hatch before cutting the hole because it is going to be a little challenging to modify the hole. Basically i cut the hole to big for the hatch and will have to replace some glass along the sides. I did use the wavejunkies instructions.

i dont know if they used superglue as thread locker or what but i am past penetrating oil. i had tried visegrips on there but couldnt get enough area to grab the nut. then i tried to dremel it to look like a flat head screw. then i tried to used bolt extractors, they broke off in the bolt. now i cant drill through the extractor. I actually might use your idea of heat. I think im at the point that the entire insert needs to come out. my idea is to use a 5/8 hole saw bit, cut the exterior of the insert loose and heat and get lucky that the bottom will break free, then 5200 a new insert in place. Any thoughts?

Hey, were did you get that hatch anyways? Are you going to make a bin for it too, or will it just act like a door to the lower area? I really like the idea...

worked on the back compartment. i cut into the existing foam to create a structure that would support the glass while it sets up. then i used the same box this thing came in at a mold. the box was perfect size as far as the height and width. had to cut the depth down to 4.5''. made that fit and taped it in. the pics are the first layer of glass.

Finally, all the pain in the a** work is done and the fun begins.
Need ideas
1. where should i relocate the single bilge outlet? was thinking next to the pump primer bulb on the left side but not sure if ill have bildge water blowing on my leg.
2. where should i relocate the bildge switch. it used to be under the seat where the seat brackets were but i want it more accessable when im riding. on the right side next to the on/res fuel switch?
3. we screwed up one part. we didnt put enough paint on the inside foot well near the top which burned through when we buffed it. should i either a) turf up and onto the top of the bond line, b) wrap over it with black vinyl, or c) screw it and use a sharpie to touch it up.

Speaking from someone who has black Blasters, don't use a sharpie, they are actually a purple black. There is a specific magic marker I use on my race boats that works MUCH better. And trust me, this won't be the first time you touch it up. Black is awesome when it is new, but it shows scratches worse than any color out there. The magic marker will become your best friend!

ski looks great.

would you mind sharing your magic magic marker brand with me? you are right though i have noticed that.

I will find it when I get home and post it here. It is a permanent marker that comes in a black container. I will figure it out and post back.

Get one of those Testors brand gloss black paint markers. Those things are way handy! Paint looks good, I love black blasters...
