welp I decided that I dont like the gray and yellow decals that come on the 90 sqaure. So ripped um off....well I scraped, cussed, yelled and rescraped at them for an hour. Then I had the idea to add a little heat... why didint I think of this sooner?!?.. the decals came off like butter once I started to tourch um a little bit. Still a royal pain. I got all the decals off but now im left with a sticky film that goo gone cant even shake... that factory decal glue is hardcore ******** im tellin yea. Hopefully ill be able to get this film off and get the sun baked afterletters buffed out. Anyway I like the look alot better then the yellow and gray... im trying so hard not to paint this ski with sparypaint like I did to my x2. So after I stripped the decals I got a little cocky and tryd to get the stickers off that are on the front of the hood, and yea I had a nice little opps with a sticker on the hood. I cooked it alittle too long so now I have a nice little baked on sticker to look at. This is just gunna motivate me do the slutty hood mod sooner anyway so I guess it isnt to bad. I can handle painting the hood. Anyway thats what ive done so far this turkey day. I didnt know there was so much fun to be had playing around with old decals:biggthumpup:

Kwit, soak the goo with 3M adhesive remover, remove with paint scraper. Be very liberal with the 3M. It's pricey (about $18 for an aeresol can) but it works great.

my decals peeled right off after taking a ride on my ski. Took less then 5 minutes, just constant even pressure, no sticky crap either. I dont know what batch your ski is.

You can soak some paper towels with goo gone, goof off, wd-40, etc...and slap them on the hull. Keeps it from running off. I used them all when I removed my stickers.

The decals on a 96 SJ i tried to remove were practically impossible. I only got the decal off the top of the handlepole and stopped. The kawasaki graphics I removed from my 800 were a piece of cake compared to that one decal on top of the handlepole of the SJ.

I always use Goof Off (and recieve the contact high that comes along with it) on the sticky resiude left after the decal itself is removed, but my question is:

How do you all remove that initial layer of decal? What are the techniques you all have used?

The best stuff I used is called Xylene. It's about $5 at Lowes etc.. It quickly breaks down the adhesive. I use a plastic putty knife and basic cotton towel to remove the goo. Paper towels suck.

Never work in a closed garage with lots of WD-40:banghead:

Kwit - I've got a 90 SJ and I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. Anyone who doesn't have this can't believe they won't come off but they really are stubborn - I think the sun bakes them into the finish forever.

Thankfully I only tried to take off the one on the front nose cover - it was absolutely impossible to get it off, using any of the commercial products. I ended up sanding it off and repainting my nosepiece. I did find a rattle can color that is damn near identical to the original color if you need that let me know. Not gas proof though sorry.

The rest of the decals (warnings on the hood) remain until someday when I decide to do the whole boat.

add some heat with a tourch or a hair dryer man makes it a million times easier
