Freestyle 865 Xscream vs Dasa 8mil

Hey guys currently thinking of a motor upgrade from my 701. I am happy with my 701 and is plenty for normal surf but after having poor conditions on the weekend at a jetski comp in sydney I struggled due to tiny waves, so pretty much looking for more punch.
My 2 choices I have been looking at were the 865 and Dasa 6mil.
What seem to be the best choice that is most reliable but plenty of power?

All bigger named engines have seem to be reliable. My choise would be a x-scream. A stock stroke compaired to a stroker crank are two seperate animals.. I have a small 8mil stroker x-scream on pump gas and no one has said they think it needs more power.. Surf only heavy ski

the stock stroke dasa 850 is a sweet set up for surf. I had that in my first vision hull and loved it!

Its all in what else you bolt to them bro. Both will be strong motors but obviously a stroker BB will be more power than a stock stroke BB.
These motors all run best on race gas compression and total loss ignitions, the right carbs and properly ported pipes.

If your on a 701 now I would go the cheaper route on the motor 865 dasa or x-screem and spend the balance on upgrades to your bolt ons. Just my opinion.

You do a lot of hours mardon. while a stroker is cool and will make more power they will not handle the hours you do.
A stock stroke is the one for you. go an x-scream there is more power in the dasa stuff but you have to work to get it out of them. The x-scream bolts together and will give good gains.
You could of course port your 701 you have and pump some compression into it, its std isnt it ??

As fas as ignitions go your going to struggle with the ignition you have if you start to load it they will not fire a tough engine. The higher pressure inside the cylinder make it harder to fire the plug

x2 on the XScream SS865 - but that said ive zero experience of the DASA set up - I just love my little screamer

Why not hit Chris up , and get some info on his 781 jetmaniac motor. I heard it hits just as hard as the xscream 865 and it cost a lot cheaper.

Where did you hear that? I know the Maniac is a nice setup but you have to be careful where you get your feedback. The 865 Dasa or Xscreem will smoke that set up if the proper bolt ons are added to utilize the power. Tuned and set up correctly as the Maniac motor IS, the 865 will make more power.
AGAIN, Not bashing the Maniac Motor, they are tuned in and make maximum power from what is there no doubt. But the 865 bb powervalved motor is CAPABLE of much more if done correctly. Just cannot bolt up your 38's and an unported pipe and stock electrics and expect it to hit to full potential.
I can see where you can easily be missled though. I have a freind that has a Dasa 865 and a Maniac 718 setup and he feels the same way (equal) BUT, he built the 865 and does not know how to tune it. 2 hrs down here on the water with a jet kit and some time to port the B-Pipe and tune it and getting the compresion correct and better ignition system and he will change his tune.
More $$$$ but it is MORE power! bottom line is powervalved 865cc vrs non PV 718cc, it takes more to make more goes for $$$ and power!

I do a lot of hours every weekend so that why I want to make sure its a reliable setup. I've been speaking to Wire and he runs 8mil Dasa's in the ski for the sea world show and he says they a super reliable and his choice is deffinately the Dasa over the Xscream He said they are running stock electrics just with an enhancer and TBM flywheel. My motor is already ported with shaved head running 180psi, epic, lightened stock flywheel, 44s, 144m mag pump.
Its a hard choice.. Keep the comments coming..

I was just helping the guy out. Giving him more options. Im sure the 718 isnt a good comparsion. But Im talking about Jetmaniacs BB781. I wasent trying to turn this into a vs's thread.

I didnt realise your was ported last time I spoke to you you said it was just a clean up.
The enhancer has alot of spark energy and will run a big engine your epic doesnt have the same current and when the load comes on it will struggle.

I believe that wires are more than just dasa they are built for him at dasa and ported there as well.
Not all of the dasa engines are the same. tricky has a x-scream 1000 on here for sale and chiselmore has a 10mm stroker dasa for 3000 all cheap engines

I am in the same position... running a LPW ported 83.5MM stock stroke motor, 33cc domes, MSD enhancer, etc- dialed in quite well, and for a 'smaller' motor hits pretty damn good. but I do want more power. Debating on going to an Dasa 850PV, Dasa 950PV or building a 5mm - 8mm stroker motor...

I want to use my current oem 44mm mikunis, and electronics (MSD enhancer and light flywheel) if possible... so sort of a budget power increase... if there is such a thing.

not sure on the Xscream ss 865 - I was quoted around $2700 for a ss Dasa 850PV top end plus $350 for case porting/trenching...

You're thinking exactly like me. Was hoping to run my oem 44s and electrics as well. The guy I was speaking to about it said I would benefit by upgrading my carbs to 46s so possible might do that. It will probably work out well anyway if I sold my whole short block 701 with carbs which would take a fare chunk of the cost out of the new motor. Cant make up my mind!!!

the ss 865 does great in the small waves. I am riding a heavily reinforced stock ski that weighs a ton. even on 2 foot surf that motor with a 144 setback mag will launch. I am at the smallest bore on the 865 kit as well.

I did go for the 46mm carbs and ported my own b-pipe though. MSD and TBM flywheel too.
