I have one slightly cracked Kawi case here,I have many Yami cases here that are now scrap metal .

Out of the 20+ people I ride with I saw 2 800 cases that where sawed apart by the crank this year, zero yamahas. I would without a doubt say the kawasaki 750/800 is more prone to catastrophic crank failures than the yamaha.

SXR-FOREVER

Finally Flippin
Who besides hollywood lost there motor?!??!?!!

Anywho, I beat the living :):):):) out of my SXR and have not had any problems with the crank. Pretty sure I have broken everything else atleast once, but nothing with the crank.

Does getting your crank trued and welded help prevent its destruction??

I really don't see the advantage of putting the 800 motor into a superjet. For one, you probably wouldn't be able to run the wetpipe designed for the 800, and certainly not the drypipe. I doubt the Yamaha B pipe would work better since it is a bit smaller, and not designed for the engine. That alone would most likely override any power advantage over the 701 based motor.

I just really fail to see the point. And Kawi 800 motors are expensive... might as well just get a custom motor built for all the hoops you would have to jump through to get the same power.

I can't imagine anyone in any forum thinking that Kawi is a higher quality engine than Yami.

I would say it is fact that Kawis quality is not on par with Yami.

I have seen Kawis (consistently over the span of my involvement) do some really weird chit. Head bolts breaking off, carb linkage falling apart, cases getting destroyed, holes stripping out, more holes stripping out, more holes stripping out.

Of course I have seen these things on Yamis too but much much much less of it and usually only on highly neglected skis.

IMO....Yami is like Honda and Kawi is like General Motors.

If Yamaha made a car I would sell my Honda Civic and buy it.

All of that being said, I of course LOVE SXR's!! Just think Yamis are better quality hands down.

Bridgejump (the ski Rehak now has) chopped up the cylinders and cases too. With as many times as you hydrolock your motor a season, I would start shopping now :fing02:

Your kidding right?
Other than maybe the new SX-R hull(all gel coat and glass), all kawi standup top decks are SMC crap. I've owned 6 different KAW 650SX/750SX/750SXI's, and they dont compare to a Superjet hull(metton square or RN) IMO. :AR15firing:

Isn't the bottom of all SJ's SMC. Who the heck knows what the top of a square is. Yeah, some of the 750 hulls seamed a little weak. I don't know about 650's. But a 550 is tough piece of SMC crap. I like my SJ, but does it really matter. Get you A$$ on the water.

I meant more looks and handling. SJ is awesome but it is no SXR. SXR is to heavy so lightweight SXR=no brainer to me.

And I can't imagine a stock SXR top deck ever falling apart. Solid as hell from what I see. So "crap" is relative I guess. I mean if it holds up and it fits the budget?

Don't even make me go in the gallery and get the destroyed Yami case and cylinder pics, thats besides the cases and cylinders I have here,I distinctly remember getting a cylinder from you that was completely screwed except for the liners.I have one bad Kawi case here ,it has a hairline crack .

If I was rich I would build 2 brand new OEM motors,1 Kaw 1 Yami, and put them on a bench and blow them up. My money says Kawi dies first. And it would be the crank I bet.

Just my opinion.

Yes, but I was talking about top decks. The SMC top decks for me always cracked and broke in many spots.

Who the heck knows what the top of a square is.

Its made of Metton, an engineering plastic that moldable and injectable. Metton is even better than SMC IMO! A Square nose held up longer than a Kawi hull for me.

I agree, whatever you can get your hands on, ride it!!!:beerchug:

Yep you did get those from me, that is high compression + heavy pipe - girdled head = cracked water jacket. In the short time I have been around skis I have already seen two kawis that turned the connecting rod into a circular saw and split the cases and cylinders. None on a yamaha. Just my personal experience...I am just saying that it seems to be popular among the kawaski 800 motors to throw a rod end and saw itself in half.
Here are some more cool pics.

Regardless of brand if it throws a conn rod at speed it will try to saw the case in half,All I can attest to is what I have seen personally and the ratio of Yamis doing that to Kawis doing that is way up there,Chances are pretty damn good on any Yami tripple ever made that is a conn rod goes the cases will either be damaged or destroyed,I have seen many take out the cases, starter, cylinder, and intakes.I have seen very little of that on Kawi engines, just as I have seen very little cylinder destruction on Kawi engines and no rear crankshaft seals hanging out of the cases .Now I am talking couches here so that is defiantly worst case ,no motors out there receive less maintaince and more abuse than couch motors, probably because once you add four or five inches of foam to the seat on a couch the engine sounds just fine to Joe average couchrider.

I have seen two Kawasaki 650's that sawed themselves in half. One was my friends on a high hour 650SX and the other was my low hour 650 X2 that had water in the gas.

But I have also seen hundreds of 650's and 750's that are still running to this day and are 20+ years old.

I go by the rule: Stock = Reliable

the shorter stroke of a Yamaha is an advantage when they hydro lock and break rods.

I've got an X2 with a 800 and Blaster 1 Mod pipe and I also have a '06 SJ with a B pipe. As of now, the X2 will destroy the SJ from bottom to top. Don't get me wrong, I love my SJ and I've only begun modding it but apples to apples the 800 out performs the 701.......as it should.
