Bump to an old thread, did anybody figure out the reason why a lightened flywheel won't charge with a zeel?
Not that i know of but damn you can run this and have twice the charging if you like. Awesome

The only way it wouldn't charge after it was lightened is if it somehow lost magnetism , it is rare but I have seen a few like that , dropping a flywheel or a strong current such as welding can weaken a magnet .

Agreed. One theory is that if the fly is cut too fast, then too much heat and magnets could be weakened. Have mainly heard of it with 760 flywheels, and those also usually get the ring gear welded which could make the issue if not done quickly and efforts to control excess heating.

Personally, if I was going to lighten a 760 flywheel, I’d just pick up another one and pull the magnets out of it. That way it’s a total-loss setup, and if you ever want charging back, you can just swap the stock flywheel back on. The reality is, the throttle response you’re chasing usually comes from the ignition curve, not the lightweight flywheel. A lightened or total-loss flywheel can be fun if you’re flat-water flipping, but for surf riding they don’t really offer much benefit at all.
