760 electrical problem.

Ok. So here is a new one to me.

I have an absolutely MINT GP760. This thing has sat in a garage for the last 6 years. Everything looks BRAND new. Ebox is crystal clean inside... engine is crystal clean.

It turns over for +/- 4 seconds... every time. Then stops. Stops dead. Just as if you had taken your finger off the button. No slowing down, no clicks, no stutters. Just stops turning. If I do actually get it fired up, it will only run for an additional 4 seconds.

After the motor stops cranking for those 4 seconds. I have to disconnect the fuse, and then reconnect. I am assuming this is restarting the power supply to the CDI and or Voltage regulator. Those are my two guesses on what is wrong.

What do you think? Anybody ever seen something like this?

Check all connections in the ebox. Sounds like the starter is good and the starter solenoid is good. I'm guessing one of the small wires connecting to the solenoid is being overloaded (too much current) and it can't get out as fast as it's coming in. When you disconnect the fuse, it allows the remaining current to exit the problem area and all is well.

No starting code on this... I think? I didn't notice one today when i was working on it.

Do you all agree it would be more in the starter solonoid than CDI? Doesnt seem to make sense to me. Even if it was overloading it would come back after a few clicks after... or at least youd hear the solonoid buzz, or click or attempt to do something. It is totally silent after it shuts off.

What year is this ski, most GP760's I have seen do have a start code, it is a four letter code , there is a mode button that you push and hold, then it will come up CODE on the screen, you enter the four digit code using the A'B'C buttons, if the code has never been set then it is AAAA, if it has been set you have to enter the correct code or go through the reset procedure. On older boats they would not even click the solenoid, on the newer stuff it allowed you to work the start solenoid for a few seconds.

Yes try AAAA first if thats not it you need to either contact the owners and get the code or reset the code.Anytime you disconnect the battery you will have to enter the code to get it to start and run, when you unplug the fuse thats the same as unhooking the battery and the code must be entered. I just did one yesterday, the code was AAAA.

And the winner goes to AAAA. Thanks guys. Ive never worked on one of these with a security code... I never would have even thought of that.
