SX/SXi/SXi Pro 750 sxi pro loose air filter metal shavings

Sad to say my first post is about metal shavings getting sucked down through the carb but...

Apparently the 4 bolts that hold the air filter base to the top of the twin carb vibrated loose. That then caused the bolts to shave/grind on the top lip of the carb creating very fine metal shavings. I noticed fairly soon because I lost a lot of power on the low end.

My question now is what should I do? Do I tear apart the engine or rip apart the carb and pray that all the shavings were caught in the reeds? Am i ready to throw a bigger engine in?

Thanks
-Tim

do a compression test to see how bad the damage is
this could be the opportunity you have been waiting for
to upgrade to a Yamaha!

reeds will not catch shavings
but they may be damaged by them
check compression first; if it is down you have bigger problems than reeds
like scored cylinders

should be 160psi or better. boring and going up in piston size is pretty cheap if it needs it. I think it only cost me about 300 when I did mine this winter. Dont quote me on that though, I did a lot of work at the same time.

i would say greater than 150 psi is acceptable
but the cylinders must not vary by +/- 5%

Sounds good, ill check the compression and see if there is anyone in north western wisco that does that type of engine work just incase. This ski is also bone stock. Anything you guys recommend for upgrades if the engine is still good? Solas impeller and scoop grate is what's on there so far.
