300/440/550 650 sx cylinder?

Ok so i have a 1988 650 sx that has a cylinder that is a peice of sh!%. so i have had 3 of the studs taped because they were stipped out which costed me $150 then after that i torqued the head on starting at 20 then eventually getting to 22 which the whole process took me 30 minutes and after all that a couple of the studs didnt torque but i wanted to get out and ride anyways. so i went out oceanside and after about 45 min while i was on my way back to the harbor i noticed there wasnt any water coming out of my pisser just smoke. so i shut off the ski and waited for my buddy to come tow me in. We hooked up the rope and everything and he goes to start his ski and all it did was click. long story short we had to swim back the from outside the harbor all the way to the launch ramps.

i got home from the ride and noticed that i had a major head leak. so i pulled the head off and got a new gasket and gasket sealer. when i went to torque it again i found out that i 9 out of the 14 studs are stripped.

So if anyone has a cylinder they dont need i would love to buy it off you.

Thanks,
Chris

I would look on ebay or check with local shops or post here for a good cylinder. Part of your problem is your torque numbers are too high. Cylinder head nuts on the 650 go to 18 foot pounds. Your 20 then to 22 are too high - I'd suggest to get your technical data corrected so an additional issue is instilled in the next cylinder. Sorry for that news, but I thought I'd tell ya.

yeah my manual sayz otherwise as well early models were different to the later ones.
cant remember witch way round but one was 18 and other was 25 from memory.
i had the same problem dude, i just helicoiled the lot and it was fine.
i suck at it but its all good now just rode it 2day and retorqued no probs ;)

I see a superjet in your sig, so I think the best solution is RIDE THE SUPERJET!!
J/K. Sorry about the bum luck man. You should be able to find a decent cylinder cheap enough.. I see people sell complete running 650's cheap all the time.
