can a 550 pump handle a 650 engine. if i put a 650 in my 550 what mods would i have to do other then ebox and conversion plate ?

Yes many have done it but,"yes there is always a but" don't expect it to leap out of the hole as they usually cavitate out of the hole to some extent regardless of the impeller pitch used.

What? I don't have any cavitation problem's at all if I do, you can't tell! The 650 conversion in a 550 hull is the only way to go IMO the 550's are junk a stock 650 in a 550 hull will out perform a modded 550 hand's down the 650 will also run for year's to come. I run a bored nozzle and a 15/20 impeller with a scoop grate.Go to pwc today and check out the vintage section over there Laserman has some good post's on how to do the conversion's elect. diagram's ect. I will never put a 550 motor together again.

Jkirkland has a 750/550 using the 550 sx pump with some stator porting and it has great hook up and could handle more brap yet. Its a ton of fun to ride.

i dont see why it wouldn't work with a bored out nozzle and the right pitch prop... i just dont want to waste the money a a 550 motor if i can spend 200 extra and drop a 650 in my hull... its a flatdeck and im doing lots of weight reduction sooo... a 650 would be nice. i just dont want to go through all of it if its not worth it

If you set the pump up right it will perform good. I just got a 550 motor built up by jetworks for low end power. Art has told me to run a 8-16 prop with my setup so I would guess yours would be a little higher pitch. You also what to get your pump ported out http://www.cpwatercraft.com/motors.html get a freestyle cone http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kawa...Personal_Watercraft_Parts?hash=item4ceaa8cb84 then get your nozzle bored and find a good top loader intake grate. If you do all this to your pump you will have great hookup and shouldnt have any problem getting your prop to grab even with the 650 motor in there.
Not as bad as an FX-1 but not as good as a 750 pump with the correct shoe and grate.

Dude you are wrong on this I don't know where you are getting your knowledge from but I call bullshat, it is kind of like saying It's not going to be as good as a Mag pump??? Crashnburn do some reading on this topic over on PWC just because they have a good vintage section. There is alot of history there on this very topic. This Mod is old school and it is one of the best thing's that ever happened to the 550 hull. Don't even consider a 440 pump or a 550 powerplant on a build that you are not commited to yet. If you already had a good motor ready to drop in then fine go with a 550 and enjoy yourself but it sound's to me like you have a hull and are trying to build a ski. Do some research let me know if I can help you.

Yea but if i have to port the pump bore the nozzle get a conversion plate and do more stuff to make a 650 work ill be way over my 1000$ budget for this ski ... i only want to spend 1000 and if i drop a reed 550 and throw a good halfpipe and carbs on it ill still have money for all my other plans.. flatdeck , flush mount handpole, custom handle pole, ect....

do the 550/650 conversion... its the best thing that could happen to you and the 440/550 hull
I run a 17p prop on mine and did not have any cavitation problems
I have read up about this quite a bit and th 550 pump is the better pump for this application
