Just thought I would throw an update out there. I was able to get my new crank to fit another set of cases that didn't have such a bad mismatch. However, the crank that came out of that set of cases (OEM), fits my original cases. I was fine with that, whatever.
So I moved on and guess what, my aftermarket couplers do not fit my new crank. The aftermarket couplers fit the OEM crank, and the OEM couplers fit the aftermarket crank. The OEM couplers have a ton of play on the OEM crank but are tight on the aftermarket crank. The aftermarket couplers, tight on the OEM crank.
Here is what I learned through all of this. You can build a crank to OEM specifications, but that does not mean it will fit like an OEM crank. I'm a victim of tolerance stacking. It appears that the OEM cranks are made on one end of the tolerance spectrum while this aftermarket crank was made on the other end.
I've been told in the past to only use OEM cranks and I always have until this one. I was talked into it, and I regret it. I will personally never buy an aftermarket crank again.
