I've seen Fearlessnuts' solution - how have others tackled putting footholds in their 550's and removing/relocating/avoiding the fire extinguisher storage? Sorry, but search results on this were disappointing.

Ah, and there it is - $80 - thanks! I'll prbly favor garage-fab over Blowsion for the 550 though, but that's a great help.

Anyone have a picture of one in use?

I'm not sure if it's stock or not, but on my 650SX, I have the one on the side and the one in the compartment, but like I said, not sure if the compartment one is OEM or not, but might be worth looking to on ebay if it is. I'm sure some people have had to take them out to fit pipes and whatnot...

pshh ride with out it... i still dont understand the point of having an extinguisher on a jetski that small. it goes underwater alot as it is :p

on a boat i can understand.. but pshhh

you dont have to understand it....its the law

and FWIW, I agree with you....on a standup its pointless

if there's a fire, just flip it upside down.....

i think the reason is that you are required to help other boaters in distress...but then you could just do a fountain and extinguish the flames that way...

If you put it under the hood, put some epoxy in the discharge nozzle. :cool2:
That way it wont go off and f/u your motor.
It wont work either, but will meet "the letter of the law"
Water cops check the pressure gauge or the green ready button and never look in the nozzle:biggthumpup:

note, the above post is an opinion and is not meant to be used as legal advice.
the poster absolves himself of all liability if you ski catches fire and you are too dumb to turn it over or swim away :sneaky:

That's exactly my concern. I had that happen when I had my extinguisher under the hood on my SN (under the fuel tank straps) - it slipped enough to crack the plastic top. I was out jumping waves and my Superjet suddenly bogs and dies. After a hard swim back to shore I popped the hood and POOF! - white dust everywhere. Fortunately my K&N's with jackets kept everything out of the motor internals, however I did have to replace my prefilters AND filters and I'd hate to think of what would've happened if the carbs had taken a good whiff of that suppressant.

Also, I know from experience that it's at least $75 (was 10 yrs ago anyway) if you get caught without one or without a whistle/noise producing device.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!
