Cost and quantities:
$34 1/2 gallon kit of epoxy resin from us composites - with some left over
$62 4lb expanding foam, 16 lb kit - with left overs
$14 for 3 yards of fiberglass cloth - with a little left over
$10 for 5200
$45 for 3 foot straps
$113 for paint but I did get some paint thrown in for free and I had primer
$20 for a bag of 50 stainless bolts (lots of left overs) and inserts for the straps
$30 for B stock turf
$7 for a quart of contact cement

Total: $335 in parts

Might be a couple minor items that I'm missing or I already had around.

So when is the first ride?

Hopefully within 2 weeks, if not Memorial weekend for sure.

Yes, I've ridden about 5 tanks through it and would recommend it on the 550. It makes the tray area so less cramped then before and you can really place your feet where you want them. I do wish that my front strap was in a better location and straighter when riding surf stance but I guess it will have to do. Rear straps seem to be in the right spot, and make throwing it around easy and similar to footholds. I haven't had a problem getting stuck in them on a bail either. Cutting/carving a turn is alot easier now cause you can stand on the edge and cut in. Every one who has ridden it seems to like it better then before. Boarding it just took a little while to get use to as you have to get one knee in the tray before you take off.

Here's a picture of it in the water

Sick! Yeah, I'm wanting to cut mine soon and your the only person that I've talked to that has some ride time on a flatdeck 550. Is there anything else that you would have done differently besides the front strap?

now, lower the engine cover, countersink the pole bracket, and put an x-metal or an xft pole on it.

then, a 750 pump conversion.

Not really sure I would of done anything different on the flat deck portion, everything seemed to come out as planned. One thing I though about doing was reversing the air intake on top of the hood, and making it face backwards to take on less water. The next thing I want to do is add some power to it with a 650/750 swap, that would make it a little more fun.

Ill try to get some action shots this weekend. I'd also like to get it on a scale and see what it weighs.

Rides nice, see some of the previous posts about how it handles. Its a lot nicer to have such a wide tray. Only problem I had with it taking on water was after filling it up with gas and losing the breather cap off the gas can in the engine compartment. Well I found it when I stopped in the middle of the lake for a couple mins. wedged in the one way valve. Ski went under quick and had to tow it to shore and go through the process of draining the engine of water and getting it back running. Crazy feeling having the ski completely submerged and just holding on the grips. But that had nothing to do with water coming in from around the fiberglass. usually I never find any water in the engine bay after riding.

Everything seemed to go smooth with no real surprises. Maybe using a lighter weight fiberglass and more layers to make it easier to form around some of the sharp corners. I would recommend doing this to your 550, makes it something that's even funner to ride and different.

alright i will definitely do that. i will probably start on this late jan or feb. but it needs a good bit more than just flatdecking. needs some motor work too
