30 lbs of water in my tray after riding!!!

I kept my plugs in so when I brought it home I could see how much the water weighed. 30 lbs! Also to see if I could find the leak, im thinking its the firewall but need to find out what it really is. This is after tearing open the tray, putting polystyrene in, replacing broken through tubes, putting a one way valve in, 5200ing the steering tube, etc.

It floats with my tray completetly full of water so would it hurt to ride with out them? that way while I am moving the suction would turn them into mini-scuppers. Does that sound like it would work or am I crazy? I have forgoten to put them in before and the ski didn't seem to have any problems.

So that's about 5-6 gallons? Find the leak? Be sure to run it again ASAP after getting the water out so there isn't a buildup of condensation on the inside of the carb intake.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say 'them'.

How fast is the water coming in? Just sitting there, can you see the water level rising?

Water won't come out very fast unless air has a way to get in. If you plan on leaving them out you might want to make some bleed holes up high in the same chamber.

When I said them I meant the plugs in the back of the ski. They are up 2 inches from the bottom. I also have two small drill holes at the very bottom with stainless steel screws in those. Haven't found the leak yet.

So you got the engine compartment packed with styrofoam? Wouldn't that mess up the air flow too much?

Anyways, my SN engine compartment will hold about 5 gallons before ingesting water. I think anyways. I'd estimate it takes somewhere around a minute to empty the bilge after a good sub at 500 gph works out to a little over 8 gallons. That seems high to me.

Hahahaha...no the engine compartment was empty. I am talking about the tray area. That is why i was confused when you said corrosion on the inside of the carbs.

I used one versa plug in mine also. I think mine is leaking at the pump and ride plate bolts, and mostly at the firewall at the exh tube. I never pulled the motor when I styrofoamed the tray. No biggie, now there is never a drop in her when I ride :)

This is how my REV is too, after a couple hour ride I pull my plugs and a couple gallons pours out. Instead of figuring out where it is coming in and fighting to seal it up I am just going to put a couple versiplugs in it.

After getting fed up with nearly 2 gallons of water in the tray after every ride, I tried to chase down the leaks.
I found my bulkhead had separated from the bottom hull. I sealed that.
I also resealed the one-way valve tube, the steering tube, and both cooling tubes.
I pressure tested the cooling tubes.
I closely inspected the bond line.

In the end, the amount of water after each ride was the same.
When I store my ski outside, it is tipped nose down because I'm too cheap for a trailer jack. I noticed after rain, water would come out of the drains. I concluded that the leaks are mostly on the top deck. :):):):)ty foothold and tray reinstallation I gather.

I didnt' care to reseal the tray. I am satisfied with the continual draining of the versiplugs. This hull is too beat up to fix anymore.

IMO no matter how good you seal the tray, if you beat on your boat enough eventually its gonna get a leak. my new hull will have versiplugs too. its fighting a loosing battle...
