Going by the dealers recommendation they told me it was important to hook up the trickle charger when not in use. Guess what, the dealer Macomb Powersports, was WRONG!

I trickle charge is a good ideal!!!! You just had a battery fail. Not sure if there is other stuff your not disclosing but a failed lead acid battery is not the fault of the dealer unless they forgot to fill it (which is part of the build and prep/uncrating). It is not uncommon for a low cost lead acid battery to fail. Get a nice AGM and use a battery tender you will get plenty of years of life.

Yuasa is far from junk, at least it hasn't been in the past. I have never been a fan of trickle charging myself. I have tried every charging method and every brand of battery over the years and still lost/lose batteries. I have had a Yuasa last for over seven years and a Deka fail in just 4 rides. Whatever the magic recipe is to making them last, it it still a mystery to me.

All I run now is Deka and just shop around to get them as cheap as possible. I use a small Schumacher charger to top them off the night before each ride.

You need a battery maintainer. A trickle charger will keep charging and charging. A maintainer will bring it up to a certain voltage then go to a "float" mode a hold it there. Check out Battery Tender brand. I keep mine on the my two skis when not in use and my batteries last a long long time.
