Super Jet 2013 sj overheating

Has anyone else had a problem with a 2013 overheating? A friend I ride with bought one, I rode with him wile he ran 2 tanks of gas mixed at 25:1 with yamalube for break in period in the river, then it ran fine in the ocean memorial day weekend, overheated once last weekend in the river, and after one hour today wont even run without getting hot in 2 minutes, and the temp sensor puts the rev limiter on it. Tonight we flushed and backflushed it every way we could hook up to blow out anything that might be clogged. any other ideas? we plan on stopping at the river on the way to the ocean tomorrow to test it, but i was wondering if anyone else has heard of this before.

Does the engine actually overheat or could the overheat sensor be shorting out and cause it to run in limp mode

Did it run fine when it was being flushed was it just warm or did it over heat while being flushed also

The 2013's have the screws on the carbs capped, instead of the t-screws, is there any chance its running lean? its all stock other than an intake grate and 2 1100gph bilge pumps

Make sure a hose didn't pop of from pump to the motor the block has to be before motor I had a shell get into the pump and get stuck in the 90 before the hose to hull fitting

We checked double checked triple checked hoses, they were all on before we took them off to flush everyting, and there back on now, I tried to put buckets under it while we flushed it to see if i could find a shell, but it was dark and there was water everywere. We'll test it in the morning, I hope its good. This is the first year I have a good surf ski, who would think the guy with the brand new 2013 would be holding me up?

if it has a blown head gasket, the compression pressure could be blowing the water out of the head and cylinder, causing the overheat sensor to be triggered. not saying thats what it is, but it is possible. i always know a blown head gasket when a head pisser pisses a water/air combo. on the hose, make sure water is dumping out the pump where water would be forced into the exhaust manifold. its gotta be a simple problem that can be easily found with the process of elimination.

Thanks buzzard, but I dont think its a blown head gasket, i will check comp in the morning to be sure, who knows what the hell happened after it got that hot. This ski is only on its fourth tank of gas... WTF!!!!

I had a little rock get stuck in my 90 degree fitting that goes into the manifold, had to take manifold off to get it out. This was on a B-pipe setup with dual cooling, so its a little different then your setup.

Check your plug and see what color they are, should be coco brown, never white.

You got a warranty on it? I'd let the dealer mess with it honestly. No sense in you wasting time and possibly money if its under warranty

If it doesn't overheat on the hose, it's most likely a blockage somewhere. I wouldn't move on to the next thing until I was sure about that. Simply flushing it doesn't get everything out. You are flushing into a T, there wont be enough pressure to clear the pump, it will just go out the pisser side.

if it runs fine on the hose, disconnect the line from the pump to the hull and flush it from that line. If it over heats, you have a problem from the pump to the manifold. Disconnect the line from the manifold and flush it backwards from there to the pump.

The pisser is very small on the stock ski. It looks big, but it only has a tiny hole. Remove the pisser and check inside it.

There are other causes, but don't over complicate things until you have been completely thorough on the cooling system. Poor tuning and a head gasket are possible, but not very likely. Would suck to start taking your ski apart to find a shell by the pump.

I have been told these new "race only" superjet's don't come with any kind of warranty.

X2 what Vumad said.

Is the cap on your flush hose tight? I had a 650 do that a few years ago. We never put the cap back on the flush line and all the water wasn't making to the engine just leaking into the hull. It ran crappy and got pretty hot before we figured it out.
